Ho trovato la registrazione di questa intervista in un bottone da due zettabyte che qualcuno aveva perso in una camera d'albergo.
Non so chi faccia le domande, chi sia il giornalista, l'ologramma inquadra sempre chi risponde, evidentemente da un'olostereocamera fissa, ma purtroppo so benissimo chi risponde... Pubblico la trascrizione integrale solo perché non credo giusto vada perso un documento del genere, anche se l'intervistato è l'Innominabile, credo che conoscere il suo punto di vista, per quanto aberrante sia, resti comunque importante.

D. Non è stato facile ottenere questa intervista. Quanto le resta da vivere?
R. Mi sto curando, ho elaborato un mix di farmaci che possono allungare la vita anche con la Malattia... insomma credo mi resti ancora un mese, forse due...
D. Una bella fregatura, una bella lezione per lei, morire proprio per colpa del suo prione, virino, viroide o come cavolo si chiama... il resto del mondo è felice per questo, ma ogni uomo e ogni donna vorrebbe comunque ucciderla prima con le proprie mani. Come ci si sente ad essere il peggior assassino mai esistito?
R. Lo so, lo so, ma le ho concesso questa intervista proprio per cercare di spiegare; so che nessuno mi perdonerà, ma io mi sento perfettamente a posto con la coscienza, dal mio punto di vista penso di aver salvato l'umanità e il pianeta e, come vede, sacrificando anche la mia stessa vita.
D. Ma non dica stronzate!!! Le è solo sfuggito tutto di mano, è semplicemente un'ironia del destino che lei stia morendo proprio per colpa sua.
R. Lei è libero di non crederci, ma quando ho preso la decisione, io ero pienamente consapevole di avere circa il 90% di probabilità di morire proprio a causa di quella decisione. Senza considerare che ero anche abbastanza certo che, appena si fosse capito quali fossero le mie responsabilità sarei stato ucciso. Malgrado questo penso di avere fatto bene, di aver preso la decisione giusta.
D. Sinceramente non ci credo, diciamo che non ci crede nessuno, lei è solo IL MALE, tutto qui... ma sentiamo allora quale sarebbe la sua versione di tutta la storia, gliel'ho promesso e la lascerò raccontare.
R. Grazie. Non pretendo che mi crediate, ma credo sia giusto che mi sia data la possibilità di raccontare tutta la storia. Per me tutta la storia comincia due settimane dopo aver pubblicato la mia tesi di dottorato, sono un biologo, biologo genetista... comunque, la mia tesi di dottorato, io sono italiano, per la precisione veneto e la mia tesi era una ricerca che riguardava la possibilità di una terapia genica per la prevenzione dell'insonnia familiare fatale, una malattia che è stata scoperta proprio in Italia, in Veneto molti anni fa.
D. Cosa vuol dire, che malattia è, non le sembra di prenderla troppo alla larga?
R. No, no, ci arriviamo subito... dunque, dicevo, in pratica questa malattia è autosomica, sì, cioè, le spiego, insomma si trasmette geneticamente, è un difetto del DNA ed è, per semplificare, dominante... questa malattia infatti venne scoperta perché colpì tre fratelli della stessa famiglia, così si cominciò a studiare. In pratica si manifesta con l'insonnia e varie degenerazioni fino alla morte, era una malattia molto rara ma sempre mortale.
D. Quindi?
R. Quindi, insomma io ipotizzavo che individuato un soggetto con quel difetto nel DNA fosse possibile, tramite un viroide, insomma diciamo con un virus che viene istruito per modificare la parte del DNA sbagliata, correggere il problema prima che la malattia si manifestasse, perché la malattia solitamente si manifesta dopo i trent'anni. Credo sia abbastanza chiaro, in pratica si manda una specie di virus a correggere l'errore e la malattia non c'è più.
D. Solo che lei la Malattia l'ha creata non l'ha eliminata e non per pochi casi ma per più di 6 miliardi di persone!!! Non mi dica che è stato un semplice errore, sappiamo tutti benissimo che è stata una scelta volontaria e studiata a tavolino!!!
R. No, no, quale errore... è stato fatto tutto per scelta... ma aspetti un attimo mi faccia raccontare dall'inizio...
Io non mi ero fermato alla teoria ma avevo dimostrato con un esperimento sui gatti di poter fare almeno una parte di quello che serviva, infatti avevo creato il viroide ed ero riuscito a modificare in questo modo una parte del DNA, anche se non era proprio la stessa malattia, si trattava dell'encefalopatia spungiforme dei felini, insomma comunque una malattia per certi versi simile, modificando il DNA ero riuscito a fare in modo che felini geneticamente predisposti diventassero immuni. Insomma era solo un primo passo ma molto importante.
D. Insomma aveva curato dei gatti e con questo? Perché poi ha deciso di decimare gli esseri umani...
R. Ma no, cioè sì, insomma un attimo, questa era solo la premessa, per capire la storia. Erano passate solo due settimane dal mio dottorato, quando ricevo una telefonata piuttosto strana, infatti io non avevo ancora cercato nessun lavoro, mi telefona una ditta di Ginevra, cioè dice questo tizio di essere il capo di un centro di ricerca di Ginevra, un ente pubblico che lavora su mandato dell'Unione Europea e mi dice che sono molto interessati al mio lavoro e mi chiede se posso andare ad un colloquio il prima possibile. Io resto un po' intimorito ma comunque logicamente accetto e il giorno dopo sono già in viaggio per Ginevra. Sembrava una bella opportunità, fare il mio lavoro, stipendio alto, grandi risorse, insomma cosa si può volere di più come primo impiego?
D. Magari che il lavoro non comprende sterminare l'umanità?
R. Beh sì, questa volta ha un po' centrato il problema, comunque ecco... arrivo a Ginevra ed entro in questo strano posto, un posto anonimo, mi fanno mettere in un ufficio e si presenta un personaggio che mi fa un discorso che sconvolge la mia vita e anche il mondo.
D. Cioè?
R. Ecco ora le parole esatte non le ricordo, comunque riassumo in poche parole il senso, però tenga presente che il colloquio durò diverse ore e che io da allora non uscii mai più di lì, fino alla grande epidemia.
D. Non mi dica che è stato sequestrato...
R. No, no, nessun sequestro, con calma...
In poche parole quella persona era un componente di una specie di Task Force della UE e intendeva arruolarmi, sì perché si trattava di un'agenzia segreta e militare. Mi spiegò che la situazione era questa: la terra aveva ancora pochi decenni di vita, la situazione era ingovernabile per inquinamento, scarsità di risorse a partire dall'acqua, il cibo, l'energia, tutto insomma. La terra è in grado di sostenere al massimo un miliardo di esseri umani e noi eravamo a quota sette miliardi.
Mi spiegò che dopo la seconda guerra mondiale sopratutto gli americani stavano studiando un modo per ridurre drasticamente la popolazione senza danneggiare irreparabilmente il pianeta. Escluso quindi l'uso dell'energia atomica e di soluzioni chimiche si erano concentrati su virus, batteri ed ingegneria genetica.
Lo scopo era quello di trovare un modo per eliminare la maggior parte degli esseri umani mantenendo quasi intatta la popolazione USA, ad esempio avendo a disposizione un vaccino contro una malattia creata in laboratorio. Vari tentativi erano stati fatti, AIDS, Ebola, vari tentativi di mutazioni dei virus erpetici, e dell'influenza come le cosiddette influenze aviaria, suina, etc.
Tutti si erano rivelati un disastro, erano stati infettati sia paesi asiatici che africani con varie malattie ma senza ottenere risultati significativi, le malattie erano o troppo virulente, come l'ebola, per cui non riuscivano a diffondersi, o mutavano troppo velocemente come l'AIDS per cui colpivano a casaccio e con tempi troppo lunghi e i vaccini non funzionavano più già dopo poche settimane oppure erano troppo poco virulente come l'aviaria e finivano in una bolla di sapone.
D. Ma la UE che c'entra?
R. Appunto, da venti anni anche la UE aveva iniziato un suo piano di decimazione mirata della popolazione e io mi trovavo a parlare col capo di questo progetto, quello era l'incarico che mi veniva proposto. Mi fu detto chiaramente che me ne potevo anche andare, tanto nessuno avrebbe creduto a una parola se io avessi rivelato quel progetto e quella struttura.
D. Quindi nessuno la costrinse, fu una sua scelta?
R. Sì. Beh ci pensai su parecchio, per essere precisi ci pensai per oltre un mese, durante il quale venni a conoscenza di dati che normalmente erano secretati. La situazione era questa, la scelta, era questa: o si riusciva ad eliminare il 90% della popolazione dando una possibilità al restante 10% di far sopravvivere l'umanità, oppure saremmo tutti morti, il 100%, tutti indistintamente, anche se questo sarebbe avvenuto qualche anno più tardi. Io dovevo scegliere se salvare una parte dell'umanità oppure lasciare che non solo gli esseri umani, ma l'intero pianeta morisse soffocato da una razza predatrice e distruttiva: l'uomo.
D. Devo essere sincero con lei, non ci credo, lei è solo un pazzo assassino, tutto qui.
R. Mi lasci finire... beh se fossi solo un pazzo che ha agito da solo mi spieghi dove avrei potuto trovare i fondi, le strutture, per fare in pochi anni ricerche così complesse... comunque, mi lasci finire! Da anni monitoravano tutte le scoperte, le ricerche, che potevano portare a una soluzione e nella mia tesi avevano intravisto una possibilità concreta.
Io avevo fatto quella ricerca in un senso, prendere un DNA che portava a una malattia e correggerlo, però, in effetti, bastava rovesciare la logica, prendere una persona sana e, usando lo stesso sistema, introdurre una malattia, ma nemmeno una qualsiasi, proprio quella che io avevo ipotizzato di curare. Era perfetta, era una malattia rara ma codificata, quindi si sarebbe intervenuti in ritardo perché riconosciuta come genetica ed ereditaria, non certo virale; era una malattia dal decorso né troppo lungo né troppo breve, si sopravvive da sei mesi ai due anni, quindi c'è tutto il tempo di trasmetterla ad altri ma non abbastanza tempo per trovare una cura...
Poi c'era un'altra caratteristica ritenuta importante dai miei capi, si poteva attivare in modo selettivo senza bisogno di un vaccino, infatti nella UE il DNA è molto più uniforme che negli USA, dove una soluzione del genere non era ipotizzabile, perché si tratta di un melting pot di razze ed etnie, impossibile creare una malattia che colpisca solo al di fuori degli USA a meno di avere già un vaccino pronto e di usarlo selettivamente, ma se c'è un vaccino allora anche in altri paesi potrebbero trovarlo in tempo.
Noi invece avevamo l'arma perfetta, potevamo decidere chi colpire, potevamo diffondere la malattia tramite un viroide innocuo in sé ma che mutava il DNA rendendolo patogeno e, senza bisogno di vaccini, potevamo stabilire a priori chi colpire e chi no.
D. Che bastardi! Che bastardo: lei è ancora peggio di quello che la gente pensa, che io pensavo!!!
R. Mi faccia finire!!!
Naturalmente tutto questo se dalla teoria si fosse arrivati alla pratica. Ci lavorai, insomma ci abbiamo lavorato per tre anni, ma alla fine ci siamo riusciti, abbiamo creato un viroide, anzi ne abbiamo creati tanti quanti servivano per i vari DNA, per fare in modo che impiantasse il codice genetico "malato" solo quando trovava una certa "chiave" un frammento di DNA tipico di una certa etnia, popolazione o gruppo.
Naturalmente era un lavoro statistico ed empirico, noi non potevamo sapere chi esattamente avesse quella sequenza, cioè quelle sequenze nel DNA. Sapevamo ad esempio che l'80% degli italiani sarebbe stato colpito, quindi anche io sapevo di rientrare tra i possibili infettati, avevo l'80% di probabilità come tutti gli italiani, infatti... come vede... ho la Malattia, sto morendo, come tutti, insomma come quasi tutti gli altri...
D. Quindi avete anche sbagliato, come si vede, nella realtà nessun gruppo particolare in Europa si è salvato, non ci sono ariani o celti o finnici immuni dalla Malattia, lei è anche un incapace oltre che un assassino, anzi uno sterminatore... l'umanità è stata sterminata da un incapace, che fine ridicola...
R. Non è andata proprio così... alla fine avevamo tutto quello che ci serviva, dovevamo solo decidere chi colpire, era una decisione difficile che presero i responsabili della struttura, non fui io né i miei collaboratori. Decisero di produrre la Malattia in modo che colpisse tutte le razze umane tranne i gruppi maggiormente presenti in Europa, consapevoli che comunque una buona parte degli europei sarebbero comunque morti perché la suddivisione era meramente statistica e sapere a priori chi possedeva il pezzo di DNA che faceva da "chiave" ai nostri viroidi era impossibile, a meno di sequenziare il DNA di tutti gli abitanti della terra.
D. Quindi le vostre statistiche erano sbagliate, perché le cose non sono andate così, si sono salvati solo gli indiani d'America, alcune tribù indigene del Sudamerica, per il resto si tratta di una distribuzione pressoché identica in tutto il mondo, solo che il 90% dell'umanità è morta in questi ultimi due anni...
R. No, non fu un errore, nemmeno questo fu un errore. In realtà questa fu la decisione diciamo "politica" ma io non mi sono attenuto a quanto mi era stato ordinato, ho prodotto e diffuso tutti i tipi di viroidi che avevamo isolato e quindi la Malattia si è diffusa senza guardare in faccia a nessuna razza, gruppo etnico... ho volutamente diffuso la pandemia il più vasta possibile, sono rimasti fuori solo pochissimi gruppi troppo piccoli, isolati e che si sono mescolati troppo poco col resto dei gruppi umani, comunque una piccolissima minoranza.
Avevo calcolato che in ogni caso sarebbero risultati immuni molti più casi di quanto era successo in laboratorio nei nostri esperimenti, perché il DNA nella realtà era molto più mescolato e mutato rispetto ai nostri dati, trovavo più giusto che a sopravvivere fossero degli esseri umani scelti assolutamente a caso e non in base a criteri eugenetici di razza o di purezza, anzi in pratica chi si è salvato è proprio chi ha il sangue più misto possibile e quindi chi era già geneticamente superiore. Io penso di aver fatto un buon lavoro, ho salvato la terra, ho eliminato il 90% di questo cancro che la stava distruggendo e ho dato una possibilità a voi, il 10% che è rimasto, per costruire qualcosa di buono e duraturo, la pace tra gli uomini e l'armonia con l'ambiente e gli altri esseri viventi.
Non so se ce la farete a costruire un mondo migliore ma io vi ho dato la possibilità di farlo, ora spetta a voi.
D. Adesso basta, ho sentito abbastanza, sentirla parlare era una mia curiosità, questa era solo una messinscena, per poter arrivare fino a lei; io sono qui solo per una cosa e la faccio molto volentieri...

I remain a bit intimidated but logically accept it anyway and the next day I am already on my way to Geneva. It seemed like a great opportunity, doing my job, high salary, great resources, in short, what more could you want as a first job?

For years they had been monitoring all the discoveries, the researches that could lead to a solution and in my thesis they had glimpsed a concrete possibility.
I had done that research in a sense, to take a DNA that led to a disease and correct it, but, in fact, it was enough to reverse the logic, take a healthy person and, using the same system, introduce a disease, but not any, the very one I had assumed to cure. It was perfect, it was a rare but codified disease, so it would be delayed because it was recognized as genetic and hereditary, certainly not viral; it was a disease with a course neither too long nor too short, it survives from six months to two years, so there is plenty of time to pass it on to others but not enough time to find a cure ...
