English Version

After our visit to Hotel Caballeriza, Yessica and I were left with that feeling that the afternoon couldn't possibly be over yet. We had enjoyed our coffee, talked for ages and, as usually happens when we go out together, we still felt like eating something tasty and having something nice and cold to drink.

But this time we wanted to do something different. We didn't want to end up at one of those places we already know by heart. We wanted to try somewhere new, although finding a new place in our city can sometimes turn into quite a mission.

After thinking about it for a while, we decided to head to La Plaza de la Marqueta, one of the areas in Holguín with the highest concentration of bars and places to hang out. That's where we found Bar El Benjuly, a place I had never been to before and, precisely because of that, I was quite curious to see it.

When we arrived, we saw that they had some tables outside, but honestly, with the heat that day, sitting outdoors wasn't exactly the most appealing plan. August in Holguín doesn't play around, and after a few minutes under the sun, any place with some shade and cooler air feels like a real luxury.

So we went inside and sat facing the bar.
At first glance, I thought the place was pleasant, although I have to admit that some things didn't completely win me over. There was something about the decoration, the theme and even the atmosphere that didn't quite fit my taste. It wasn't an unpleasant place at all, I simply didn't have that instant feeling of love that sometimes happens when you walk into a place for the first time.

But anyway, we were hungry and thirsty, so the menu was what really mattered.
And that's when the first surprise of the afternoon arrived.

The prices seemed quite high to us and, to make matters worse, many of the options on the menu were not available. You know that feeling when you choose something, get excited about trying it, and then they tell you, "We don't have that." Well, that happened to us several times.

After looking through the available options, we ended up making a pretty simple choice: a serving of croquettes and a couple of very cold beers.

And honestly, after the heat we had been dealing with, those beers were wonderful.

The croquettes arrived hot and, although they definitely weren't among the best I've ever tasted, I liked them. They were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, and paired with a cold beer, they had exactly what we needed to enjoy the rest of our afternoon.

It wasn't an extraordinary food experience, but it didn't have to be.

The best part, as usual, was the company.
Yessica and I can sit down with a coffee, a beer or simply a glass of water and somehow end up laughing about absolutely anything. There are friendships where you don't need elaborate plans to have a good time, and I think ours is exactly like that.
