On the lake and still having the ground under your feet

Lake Zurich is on the route of the pilgrims of St. Jacobs, which was very famous in the past. A unsafe, winding wooden footbridge with loosely laid boards helped people to cross the lake at that time.

Since the 19th century, a navigable dam allows to cross the lake at the narrowest point between Rapperswil and Hurden.

The wooden footbridge also still exists, 841 meters long, two and a half meters wide, now modern in design . It is the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland.

With the exception of a few structural elements, the whole bridge is made of untreated oak wood.
