Hello dear steemians this is my second post is this fabulous platform, for some time I will continue to post on steemit as there are some communities that will continue to work until they move completely to Hive.

For today I have a very common theme among photographers of all kinds, black and white photography and how contrast affects the final result of any photographer.

Black and white photography has always fascinated me above all because it represents a large part of the beginning of photography as a technological novelty as well as visual art that began to take shape as different visual artists appropriated this visual tool.

Nowadays, black and white photography is still used in documentary projects because it lacks color and gives more drama and careful attention to the viewer.

With the appearance of color photography in 1861, it meant a deep and radical change for the photographic field but even so, until 1970, color photography was commercially exploited limiting the use of black and white films only for the artistic and documentary field.

5 years later in 1975 the first digital photography was developed thanks to Kodak, this also marked a milestone in history but it would be in 1990 when the use of digital cameras on cell phones became popular.

Even so, even today black and white photography is still used, our Smartphones have the option to convert any photograph to black and white, that is exactly what I have done with each of the photographs you see in today's publication.

The idea is to give it the look more like the black and white photographs of the past, that's why I base this technique on the contrast, although in the analog photography there was a great look with the grain, in the digital photography we will find is with noise that has nothing to do with the grain and it's not so attractive either, however, the black and white photography is usually characterized with the contrast, some vintage styles used little contrast and a lot of saturation to give a smoky look.

Another aspect to take into account when editing black and white photography is the interpretation of the colors, this is basic and easy to do if we are in an image editor since there are controls to graduate the saturation of the main colors of the color circle, in the Smartphones we will have to use the saturation to take the photograph to black and white on the other hand we will have to take the contrast to its maximum point or almost to the extreme because in this way we can resemble very much to the old photography.

I remember my first exhibition in a museum where I presented a documentary photography work, the print of the photographs came out in gray, and before printing they also looked gray, this was not on purpose, I learned that black and white photo editing was very different from color photography, a mistake that cost me a few hundred dollars spent on printing grayscale photography.

Feel free to experiment, digital photography is very useful and inexpensive, just imagine for a moment having to spend money on film, which is sensitive to a specific type of light and then developing it to know for sure how the result of a photograph will look.
