I grasp at the void. Giants so far away, untouchable.

I should be crushed by the weight of kilometers of sky, of stars, of universe, yet I am free, like a slowly drowning fish with decades still to see the unbreathable eternity.

Time flashes forward, one instant at a time, unstoppable. Or does it really move? It could all just be memory. After all, we can't see the present, only the recent past. It takes time for synapses to happen, for photons to reflect off rocks and into our eyes.

People create gods that look at us from above. Dark eyes, gazing from the stars, judging us, ready to claim our souls, to throw us into reincarnation, or to a hell of human creation, custom-made for our deepest fears.
