Waraira Repano || Cerro el Avila ||Caracas - Venezuela
Caracas beautiful city, in the middle of the chaos typical of this capital city you will find a mountain of great beauty with an area of approximately 53,000 km 2.
This majestic mountain that covers the whole valley of Caracas is the Waraira Repano, original name, but it is also known as the Cerro el Avila.
It faces the Caribbean Sea to the north and the valley of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, to the south. As it is at the top you can enjoy both landscapes, you can see the beautiful city of Caracas, as well as the intense blue sea of the Caribbean coast.
Wuaraira Repano or Cerro Avila
Part of the territory of the Caribbean ethnic group, led by the Cacique Guaicaipuro, the Wuaraira Repano means large mountain range, it is also said that its name was given by the number of tapirs that inhabited it. These mammals were wiped out by the Spanish during the invasion.
For a while it was called Cerro el Avila, after the surname of a governor of the time. Then it was given again its original name Waraira Repano. It is part of the national parks. The highest peak is Naiguatá, with more than 2700 meters above sea level.
This mountain has a beautiful fauna and flora, it is home to many birds, more than 30 species of hummingbirds, macaws, parrots, macaws, eagles, owls also deer, cunaguars, foxes, cachicamos, porcupines, rabbit, straight from iguanas to rattlesnakes, and several species of corals.
It has more than 60 strong waterways.
There are several ways to visit the Waraira Repano one is the Cable Car system, where you can enjoy a beautiful ride with a great view up to the top and visit the Hotel Humboldt
The Hotel Humboldt is one of the jewels of Venezuelan architecture built in the 1950s by Venezuelan architect Tomás Sanabría.
The first 7 star hotel It was abandoned for a long time, it has been recovered and reopened, it is really beautiful, it is 2,200 meters above sea level.
You can also go up by 4x4 to the village of Galipan where you can find inns, restaurant and craft shops.
The more adventurous take the routes on foot to camp at the top.
The Waraira Repano is one of the favorite places for caraqueños to train, some do it daily, many do it on the weekends, I used to climb twice a week, but because of the insecurity of the entrance I have near my house, I stopped doing it.
This vegetable lung full of beauty is another wonderful place of my beloved capital city, I enjoy admiring its greatness that adorns with its majestic beauty.
