Many times people ask me how to be a good drummer

Muchas veces me preguntan ¿cómo ser un buen baterista?

To which I answer: You have to understand that the drummer is the fundamental basis of all the participants in a musical group, and it is important to keep an exact tempo and rhythm, to serve as a rudder in the interpretation that will be carried out and that's the same for any genre, be it orchestral, reggae or basically a rock / metal band.
The main thing to be able to be a good drummer or percussionist in general, is to master the practice pad.

A lo que yo contesto: Hay que entender, que el baterista es la base fundamental de todos los participantes en un conjunto musical, y es importante llevar un tempo exacto y el ritmo, para servir de timón en la interpretación que se llevara a cabo y eso es igual para cualquier género, sea orquestal, reggae o básicamente una banda de rock/metal.
Lo principal para poder ser un buen baterista o percusionista en general, es dominar el pad de práctica.

The practice pad is a base, mostly made of wood or plastic with a circular shape and with a pad, that we drummers use, either to warm up before a performance or, most importantly, to obtain more dexterity when playing our instrument. The good thing about this pad is that it is silent and does not disturb the hearing of whoever is nearby.
But the pad will not magically bear fruit, we have to rehearse a series of exercises with both hands alternating speed and tempo, in order to develop our creativity, speed and independence when playing, to perform these exercises we must have conviction and perseverance.

El pad de practica es una base, mayormente de madera o plástico con forma circular y con una almohadilla, que utilizamos los bateristas, bien sea para calentar antes de una actuación o lo mas importante, obtener mas destreza a la hora de tocar nuestro instrumento, lo bueno de este pad, es que es silencioso y no molesta la audición de quien esté cerca.
Pero el pad, no dará frutos por arte de magia, tenemos que ensayar una serie de ejercicios con ambas manos alternando velocidad y tempo, para así desarrollar nuestra creatividad, velocidad y la independencia a la hora de tocar, para realizar estos ejercicios debemos tener convicción y perseverancia.

All these exercises will give you the tools to be able to express yourself freely on the drums, I always say that a group is good, as long as it has an excellent set of drums since we drummers must create the specific conditions so that the other components of the group can also express what they want, giving the audience an excellent environment and feeling the energy which we want to express in different ways.

Todos estos ejercicios darán las herramientas para así poder expresarte libremente en la batería, siempre digo, que una agrupación es buena, siempre y cuando tenga un excelente juego de tambores ya que los bateristas debemos crear las condiciones específicas para que los demás componentes del conjunto puedan también expresar lo que ellos quieren, dándole al público un excelente ambiente y sintiendo la energía la cual queremos expresar de maneras distintas.
