Beautiful Sunday - Cycling in Derbyshire

(Edited)

I had a cycle ride around Ladybower Reservoir. This is my brother's electric bike. I'm not there yet. I still rely on my own power. Perhaps that's why I don't get far!

Ladybower Reservoir is famous for flooding the villages of Ashopton and Derwent to build the reservoir. When we have a bit of a drought, you can actually see what's left of the villages underneath the water. The Upper Derwent Valley was also used for the training of the dambuster raids during World War II.

It was a lovely day. Weather was just perfect for cycling, warm with a bit of a nip in the air.

I remember driving through Derbyshire about 12 years ago, we were delivering furniture from Leicester, and I was blown away at how beautiful it was. I'd spent years traveling USA and Africa and the middle east and realised I'd neglected what was on my doorstep.

It's only since I took up photography and started to receive nice comments that I began to appreciate my home county. 🙂
