Story of a Bangladeshi worker who is suffering due to his irresponsible sponsor!

Today morning one Bangladeshi worker came to my chamber with a history of scorpion bites around 4 hours earlier. Some patients come to us with similar problems. There are certain types of scorpions here in Oman, the sting from them is quite painful. Usually, people scream due to pain and they rush to the clinic for the rapid relief of the pain. We immediately give one local anaesthetic injection locally to reduce the pain within a few seconds. We also give another painkiller injection if there are no other contraindications.

Today’s patient got the scorpion sting at around 7 am. His place of work was far from our clinic or any clinic/hospital. He informed his sponsor, with whom he didn’t have a good relationship. His sponsor refused to take him to any doctor. After 4 hours of severe pain, he reached my clinic on his bicycle. I gave him the necessary treatment and he left our clinic in a pain-free state (for the time- being).

During his treatment, he talked about his condition. He wasn’t given any salary for the last 5 months! He wasn’t given the chance to go to Bangladesh even though he was ready to give up his pending salary (In Oman, the sponsor keeps the passport and national identity card). He doesn’t know when he can go back to his homeland!
