[ENG-ESP] A short story of a teacher -Anécdota de una profesora

Buscando unas fotos en facebook, me encontré con esta foto y recordé el momento que captó esta foto. Aquí les comparto la anécdota.

Hace 15 años trabajé en un liceo donde se entregaba comida a los estudiantes por medio del PAE (Programa de Alimentación Escolar), pero algunos estudiantes botaban los vasos, bolsas, cubiertos, envases y restos de comida en el piso, en el patio y no en la papelera.

Estaba acumulando parte de la basura para recogerla y colocarla en la papelera gigante (el pipote rojo que se ve en la foto), cuando se me acercó un estudiante, pensé que venía a ayudarme, se me quedó viendo, colocó sus manos en sus bolsillos, entonces yo comencé a hablarle acerca de la importancia de la limpieza que hay que mantener en el plantel educativo, que no hay necesidad de arrojar la basura al piso, si tienen la papelera gigante, ¿por qué botaban la comida que se les da en el PAE? Bla bla bla.. Qué botar la comida es malo, que en un futuro les puede faltar alimentos, bla, bla, bla… Que yo esperaba que él se comunicara con sus compañeros y sea portavoz de arrojar la basura en su lugar. Bla bla bla, yo seguí con mi monólogo…

El me miraba atónito, con ojos grandes, le pregunté. ¿entendiste lo que te dije? Él me contestó: No, no le presté atención, me acerqué sólo para preguntarle si revisó mi examen y si recuerda mi nota… Imagínense como me sentí… yo pendiente de la basura, de que no botaran la comida del PAE, aconsejaba al estudiante para que fuera multiplicador de mis consejos...y ni me prestó atención...él pendiente de su nota…testigo de esta experiencia, esta foto que nos tomó una alumna, quien dijo que nuestras caras eran muy cómicas, que eran todo un poema.

Reflexión: Las personas a veces están perdidas en sus pensamientos y dejan de ver y escuchar, están pendiente solamente de lo suyo, de lo que le interesa, lo demás no le importa. Pero esta actitud no es la correcta. Debemos ver, escuchar empáticamente, ponernos en el zapato del otro, para comprender y de esta manera se puede analizar, tomar decisiones y acciones.

Looking for some photos on facebook, I found this photo and remembered the moment that this photo was taken. I will share with you the anecdote.

Fifteen years ago, I worked in a high school where food was delivered to students through the SFP (School Feeding Program), but some students threw away glasses, bags, cutlery, containers and food scraps on the floor, in the courtyard and not in the trash.

I was accumulating part of the garbage to pick it up and put it in the giant trash can (the red trash can in the picture), when a student came up to me, I thought he was coming to help me, he looked at me, put his hands in his pockets, then I started to talk to him about the importance of cleanliness that has to be maintained in the school campus, that there is no need to throw the garbage on the floor if they have the giant trash can, why did they throw away the food given to them in the SFP? Blah blah blah.. That throwing food away is bad, that in the future they may lack food, blah, blah, blah... That I hoped that he would communicate with his classmates and be a spokesperson for throwing away the trash instead. Blah blah blah, I went on with my monologue...

He was looking at me in astonishment, with big eyes, I asked him. Did you understand what I said? He answered: No, I didn´t pay attention to you; I approached you, only to ask you if you checked my exam and if you remembered my grade...Imagine how I felt... I was aware of the garbage, of not throwing away the PAE food, I advised the student to be a multiplier of my advice. ...and he didn't even pay attention to me...he was waiting for his note...witnessing this experience, this picture taken by a student, who said that our faces were very funny.

Reflection: People are sometimes lost in their thoughts and stop seeing and listening, they are only interested in their own, and the rest does not matter to them. However, this attitude is not the right one. We must see, listen empathetically, to comprehend in order to analyze, take decisions and actions.
