Fallen (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)

Evanescence experienced wide success on their first album "Fallen". But does anyone know the album was released before releasing a lead single. A track released as a single can help an album to sell. Being a new mainstream band, it can be a challenge to sell an album especially without a supporting single. Still, "Fallen" managed a surprising top 10 debut.

Just a month after the release of "Fallen", their first single "Bring Me to Life" was released. The song became a number 5 hit three months from its release in Hot 100. It eventually became a global hit in succeeding months. I remember it became the theme song of "Daredevil" movie with Ben Affleck as the superhero character. In fact, I first heard of their third single "My Immortal" from that movie.

Talking about "My Immortal" I never expected it to be released as a single. During the peak of "Bring Me to Life", "My Immortal" has always been played in local radio stations, and for sure, it made waves already in some countries. Their second single "Going Under" is just a minor hit. By late 2003, "My Immortal" was finally released as a single. It was a top 10 hit, and is going a billion hits on YouTube. That's amazing knowing there are bigger hits the time of its release, yet it earned such massive views.

"My Immortal" was actually released with its bridge turned to rock and final chorus compared to the original piano version. If you ask me, both versions are equally good. The song also helped "Fallen" extend its success with sales estimated at 17 million.
