Original / Cover (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)
Some pop artists might be fans of some rock songs. Thus, they tried to create their own versions of those songs, but was turned into pop. Yes, Mariah Carey has turned 3 ballad rock songs into a pop ballad, with "I Wanna Know What Love Is" as the most recent one.
There goes Britney Spears who turned a Rolling Stones song into a dance pop tune for "Oops!... I Did It Again" album. While on her third album, she released the song "I Love Rock and Roll", an original rock song from Arrows, and a bigger hit for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The song has a touch of rock, but being performed by a pop star makes it qualified as a pop music record.
British girl group All Saints also covered one of the big rock songs out there. It's "Under the Bridge", which is an original song from Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The song was released as a double-side single along with their own version of "Lady Marmalade". Not every original artist become pleased with a cover of their song just like Anthony Kiedis of RHCP on the version of All Saints, which was pop with a touch of electronic and R&B.
When I heard "Under the Bridge" I have no idea the song was a cover, but the guitar riffs is familiar. It was until a VJ on MTV has mentioned that the song was from RHCP. I admit I like the All Saints version but the original has more depth. It might be that the original singer has written in on his own perspective.
