Slow Burner (Music Themed 5-Minute Freewrite Challenge)

A first single from a debut album of an artist might be quite a hit, but the second single being a huge hit contributes to the success of an album. It will also pave the way for the artist to stardom. Back in 1997, a number of girl groups attempted to rival or follow the footsteps of Spice Girls including Solid Harmonie, She Moves, and others. There goes All Saints, which sounds like a fusion of Spice Girls and TLC. Their first single "I Know Where It's At" was a top 10 hit in several countries. It even managed a top 40 peak in Billboard Hot 100. But such performance of a first single is not enough until their second single was released.

"Never Ever", the second single, was an immediate hit in UK, and elsewhere a slow burner. It contributed to the huge sales of their first album. Likewise, it paved the way for subsequent hit singles for the album. There's a good marketing as well for releasing a double sided single with two tracks which are covers, "Under the Bridge" and "Lady Marmalade", which was a UK number 1.

The album has a total of five top 10 hits in UK, which included a total of three number 1s. Though, All Saints' success was limited in United States with the single "Never, Ever", a number 4 hit. The group may not have achieved the height of Spice Girls fame then, at least they're the only girl group during their time to come close with the phenomenal group.
