An amazing Sunrise in the Mountains for me alone

avatar

6 months ago I have got up very early in the morning, drove 130 kilometers on the road and then 14 kilometers on a gravel road up to the mountain pasture. After a hike of about 2.5 hours I reached the summit of the Hochstadel mountain.

And whatfor did I get up so early and do all this? Well, just to see a beautiful sunrise 😊

Sunrise at the Hochstadel
2.681 m / 8,796 ft . Gailtal Alps

Actually you can say that I have grown up on this mountain. When I was a boy I have spent almost each summer up there and still know every single path and stone.

I have been either with my own family in our little cabin or also as "guest" with another family which has run a lodge where hikers could eat and stay over night. Many tourists have spent their whole holidays there too. Believe me, these were the best summers in my life.

That morning in October 2019 was calm and I really enjoyed the silent hike up there. On my way back down to the mountain pasture later on I have met a few other people, but this sunrise has been mine alone.

It was still dark and silent and the valley was beautifully covered with fog. There haven't been clouds on the sky, but it was quite a bit hazy and so the horizon has been painted in a beautiful orange color by the rising sun.

In this photo, which I have taken towards the north you can see the highest mountain of Austria. The Grossglockner is 3,798 meters high (12,460.63 feet).

This photo I have taken from the mountain pasture where I started my hike a couple of hours ago. The snowy mountain in the middle with the cross on top is the Hochstadel from where I have taken the sunrise photos.

It is not the highest mountain, but in my eyes one of the most beautiful mountains with an amazing view.

Times has changed since this hike and the world has changed, but the sunrise will still be the same when I get up there again soon.

Oh ... you killed me ...: D
This is an incredible sunrise with fantastic light. Now I really regret that there are no mountains near me ...
Great photos!

I was really lucky that day, because I didn't even look at the weather forecast, and the best thing has been that I was completely alone on the mountain :)
Thank you so much for your kind compliment @bambuka, but honestly, I didn't want to kill you ;)

😉
What I love most up there besides the amazing views is the peaceful silence. Looking down to the small world below makes me always forget all the things which seem to be so important when I am down there.

WOw so worth the long trek to get there for those amazing shots and to revisit where you have spent so much time over the years and I can see what you love it there

Thank you very much JJ 🙂
In the past years I haven't been very often there, but when the children were younger we have spent some summer weekends in the cabin.
Especially when you have the whole mountain for you alone it's a great feeling.

Ohh being up there all alone must be amazing, the perfect idea of social distancing to me ;)

That's true, I love to be alone and this morning was kind of perfect to me, although sharing such moments with someone would be very nice too, I prefer to be alone and take pictures which I can share afterwards ;)
This would have made a very good title too "Perfect Social Distancing" - should have thought about that 😉

yeah some places a nice to share such as there with the beautiful scenery, but when taking photos its good to be on ones own and be able to take al the time you need without worrying about the other person getting bored or wanting to move on

Yes, it's always different when I have someone with me - I always think that I have to hurry because of the reasons you have said. It's much better to be alone when I want to take photos 🙂

Ohh yes for sure, that said we have a family friend where we will be moving to who wants to go out on photo shoots with me, I am looking forward to that, he can show me the area and good spots and we can have fun comparing notes and styles settings etc

Yes, somebody who takes photos himself knows what it's all about and will take care and you know he will not mind if you take your time. And as you said, you can help each other and you can learn from the other, that's great 👍

Yeah to me its a win Win, he was getting into photograp[her a couple of years ago and often was asking questions, her had some changes in his life and took a break but wants to get back into it after the virus so it could be good timing for us

That's really cool and I'm happy for you. He also can show you around and you will see places which you might not have found if you were alone.

exactly and although I love exploring a new place myself and seeing what I can find, having someone who knows the area and who is into photography is a good thing of course

Yes, I have already posted some and I still have a few left for another day, when I don't know what to post ;)
But it was a really exceptional morning for me which I didn't expect to be that beautiful and peaceful so alone up there :)

Thank you so much for your kind comment and wishes, my friend 🙂
You too, stay safe and healthy, because although some countries are loosening the measures, such as Austria, the evil enemy is still around.

Plenty of wow moments there. Absolutely awesome and beautiful scenes and shots. Great job! And yes, no matter what is happening now, the sun will be there again tomorrow, and the morrow after that, and... And you will get to see it again. Have a great weekend! Cheers!

... but I won't see the sun today, because we have some rainy days, which we need, because we have had quite a few very dry weeks ;)

Thank you so much for your kind comment on my post and my photos, @quotes-haven, I do appreciate your compliments 🙂
I wish you a great weekend too my friend, and take care.

It was well worth the drive to see the sunrise. The sun looks like it’s just hanging there in the second photo. Beautiful phots and my fav is the 1st photo with the layered look of the mountains (Group of Seven style). 🙂

Of course my dear @kaminchan, after we have hiked back down to our starting point on the mountain pasture we will have a very good breakfast with breathtaking view over the valley.
When I'm up there next time I will take some photos of this place show them to you 😁

After you carried my luggage to the summit, of course - that's what you promised 😉 lol

But then you can have fresh milk from the cows on the mountain pasture, of if you like you can also have goat milk. To eat you would get fresh made butter and crusty bread, which is still warm from the oven. And I would cook the best ham and eggs you have ever had in your life ... I bet you are hungry now ;) lol

I wish you a wonderful Sunday, dear @kaminchan 🙂

You must go there before the tourist season begins or after it has ended.
Otherwise you hear people talking and laughing almost all day long, and that's not what I like to hear in the mountains... the sounds of the cows and of the sheep and of the wildlife is beautiful and is part of the life up there in the mountains, but besides the animals it should be quiet for me.
Mostly I get up very early then and hike up to a peak. All people I might meet at such an early time are of about the same kind as I am and they love the silence 😉

It's always a pleasure for me to get such nice comments like yours when I share my photos and also parts of my life here on th eHive.
So, thank you so much, Trudee, take care and have a wonderful day 🙂

Oh.....if only that were possible Johann.

There is something uniquely invigorating about the environment of high places.....and mountains if one has the energy and the opportunity to do so.

And the early hours of the day are the best times to appreciate your surroundings, especially when accompanied by the 'sound of silence.'

accompanied by the 'sound of silence'

That's a nice saying and I totally agree with that.
I always try to already be on my way back when the first "tourists" or hikers arrive. That way I have all places most times for me alone 🙂

And it's even better when I can take a photo or more and share them with you.

Thank you very much for your nice comment Keith, I appreciate your kind compliment on my photos 🙂
Have a great day and take care.
