Frozen Morning

avatar

Last weekend I posted a Frozen Heart and this weekend it's the whole morning at the lake that was frozen.

Frozen Morning
Frozen Morning

Only a week ago it was cold and snowy, but there was no ice on the water in the reservoir and so I could take a few photos of a young swan that was curiously following me for a while, until the parents came to save it from the dangerous human.

During the past week the temperatures have fallen down far below -10 C (14 F) to even more than -20 C and although the sun was shining sometimes, the temperatures didn't climb much higher than a few degrees over 0C. Yesterday afternoon it was quite warm at about +2 C / 35 F.

So, when I arrived at the reservoir yesterday morning, I saw that the lake was completely frozen. Obviously there were no swans around this time ;)

It was freezing cold at about -15 C and the ice was quite thick so that I could walk on it to take the photos in this post. I didn't want to go far from the lakeside though, because ice is something I don't trust a lot.

I have also taken a couple of photos of small frozen waterfalls and icicles, but I haven't had enough time yet to edit them. Maybe next week will be better.

After a busy week, I finally managed to make a post once again, and I do hope you like the photos I shared with you today.

Yeah, there have been so many of them growing on the ice. I wonder if they will still be there when I have time for my next walk.
Thank you very much kindly, @ewkaw, have a nice evening and a wonderful week ahead 😊

WOW! The frozen lake is very gorgeous! The mountains are magnificent with the reflection of the sunlight. The "small frozen waterfalls and icicles" are amazing. Great capture!

The young swan is very cute. Oh! It's great that it was interested in you, so you can take a photo of it closely.... You were a lucky guy....not a dangerous man! 😄

Parents always care for their kids - the old swans should know me very well, because I go often for a walk at this reservoir, but you never know how people might change. Maybe I have become a hunter since I was there last time ;)

Thank you very much for the kind words you have found for my photos, @tangmo, I wish you a wonderful week ahead and take care 😊

Yeah! I absolutely agree with you, "every place has its own beauty".....

I live near Bangkok, so there are high buildings around my area. That's so sad!

In the meantime, I enjoy looking into the sky and watching clouds. Besides, planting flowers is my favorite. That's my happiness..... ;)

See? You don't like the buildings, but what's above ... watching the clouds is amazing and relaxing.
We have flowers on our balcony and I like it, but it's my wife's work to keep them alive 😉

WOW! It's great that you have flowers on your balcony. For me, I have only a few flowers in my little garden. On my balcony, I have only ornament plants.

Watching the clouds is amazing and relaxing..... That's why I love it!

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! ;)

Gorgeous photos Hannes. The mountains in the background and the lake make a beautiful landscape. The ice flowers add a nice texture. I really love the depth of field.

I’ve heard swans are intelligent and this one probably remembers you if he was following or maybe he just wanted a photo taken. 😀

Good you were careful on the ice dear Hannes. It can be dangerous.

Wishing you a wonderful week!🤗☀️

Good morning Jo,

thank you so much 😃
Believe me or not, the name "Ice Flowers" didn't come into my mind. I knew they are called somehow, but I couldn't remember ... maybe I should have asked 😉

The ice was very thick, but so many people in the past have thought the ice they were walking on was safe, and it wasn't.

You have a wonderful week too, my dear 🤗 and take care.

I think they are called Ice flowers or Frost flowers that are formed by the hoarfrost. Either way they make an attractive addition to the photos.

Yes, I’ve heard of a few people who have gone through the ice, especially on skidoo’s, but it would be way to go through while walking.

Today is staying at 2C overnight but cold air suppose to be moving in tonight. I can’t complain as January has been a lot warmer month than it usually is.

Again I wish you a great week ahead dear Hannes.🙂

It really looks like flowers growing on the ice :)

There will always be stupid people who don't believe the warning signs and want to go swimming in the ice cold water when the ice breaks under their feet. We don't have a lot skidoo's here.

Our temperatures are below zero at the moment, but the sun is shining.

Frozen the lake makes lovely textures across the water, bubbly clouds above with a little sunlight peeping across the expanse revealing small town on opposite bank.

Warmth of the sun hitting the rock face, mist still rising gives the feel of early morning.

Walking on water you did it, people tend to forget it freezes up 😃, superb photography share once again. Tip toeing through ice flowers I see people of the North refer to them as, glad you didn't slip on that could leave nasty cuts.

Wishing you a wonderful week hopefully not too much work to do and more time outdoors.

Hi Johann,

I like "...it was quite warm at about +2 C / 35 F." 😀 Over here, when it is 23C, you see people wearing jumpers. 😊

Hi Vincent,
that was more a joke, because at 2 C we are also wearing thick clothes, but when it's 23 C we wear shorts and t-shirts 😁 lol
Wish you a nice day and week, my friend 🔆

Those are so beautiful. You really did the entire location justice with those pictures. And yeah, I agree with the ice. You're braver than I am for venturing out to any distance at all.

As long as I could quickly run to the safe ground in case the ice breaks, I don't mind walking on it, but I always listen to the noise it makes, because the ice tells you that it's going to break 😉

Thank you very much for your kind comment, Victor, have a nice day and wonderful week 😀

Ice can get very thick so even cars can drive on it ... some of them can be found on the ground of the lakes in spring though ;)

Thank you very much kindly, my friend, if you have never walked on ice you should definitely try it :)

Cars found on the grounds of the lakes in spring and with frozen skeletons that couldn't escape no thanks i will stick to solid safe grounds but i have walked on ice when i was doing ice-skating and it hurt when you fell over...lol 😆

Hahaha, I think they get the cars out of the water as soonas possible, because the water in out lakes should stay drinkable - they might leave the corpses down there for the fish though 🤣

Since I fell down once when I was ice skating I haven't done it anymore - walking is fine ;)
