Blue Hour at the Reservoir
Pre Sunrise Photography
Blue Hour at the Reservoir (Austria, Carinthia, Drau)

I'm working today and take advantage of this more or less easy day to edit my photos for the next #AlphabetHunt when we hunt the letter "S".

And because I have posted so many macro photos lately I thought it's time for some landscapes again. So, I have edited yesterday's sunrise photos also today and share a few them in this post.

I love this time before the sun rises or sets more than the actual sunrise or sunset.

When I arrived at the reservoir it was completely foggy and still very dark. But during the walk to my preferred sunrise spot the fog almost disappeared and the horizon caught some color from the soon rising sun. There were no clouds, so the whole scenery was more subtle and smooth.
But there haven't always to be exploding colors for a beautiful sunrise in my eyes.

I haven't taken the photos for this Panorama with the intention to make a Pano, but when I opened the two images taken with the EF 70-200mm lens I thought they'd make a nice Pano.

Good-Morning, Day

Good morning, Day,
Whether cloud or sun,
The world's begun
Again for work and play.

If I do my best,
God will tend the rest—
Working, loving, sharing all,
Making you, Day, beautiful.

Good morning, Day,
The world's begun
For every one
For love and work and play!

Amazing that no one has ever started a "Blue Hour" challenge before Hannes!

I also didn't know that the period is called Blue Hour even though I have seen it so many times.

Wonderful photos as usual and great to see your creations.

Blessings!

My pleasure Hannes,

I in turn love them all, but my favorite is the grey mornings.
I think that my favorite color is grey hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Grey mornings in Autumn and Winter with a lot of morning mist over a lake or a field are beautiful 😊 Of course, there's something beautiful in every time and color of day, I just don't like it when it's cold and rainy 🌧️

Hahaha, yes indeed Hannes, cold and rainy weather is always a problem.
How well do I remember those early mornings on the way to work on my bike, especially in winter.
Frozen and wet is never a good experience.

But then again there are those days that you speak about here that makes it a pleasure to be alive lol.

Cheers and thanks!

From the end of October till April it's too cold here to ride motorbike, even if it's warm the roads stay cold, wet and slippery.

So I prefer the other months, and if it rains then I don't mind much.

But as said, I avoid going outside when it's raining and freezing, but not if the rain is snowfall, because this is something I love 😀

Cold and slippery roads are looking for trouble with anything on two wheels Hannes.
You are wise to stay off the bike in those months.

I presume that the sun prevents the roads from becoming slippery when wet in the other months?

Yes, I would have done the same, but I had to work and I only had the bike at the time., so come whatever, I traveled every day on the bike.

Yeah, you guys get lots of that lovely white stuff and we only get a little bit on the mountain peaks.
I can only imagine how magical it must be and I am sure that your camera also loves it lol.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, in Autumn there are leaves on the roads and especially in the shadow areas it stays wet too, what makes the roads dangerous for bikers as well as for stupid car drivers ;)

In the past years the snow stayed mostly on the mountains or higher regions, but sometimes we get more than enough, and yes, I love to walk in the snow if it's snowing and my camera loves it too 😊

I think that wet leaves on the road will make dangerous skid pans Hannes.

So, you are saying that the snow is only in the mountains?

I thought that it would also be in the towns and the roads. My friend that lives in a small town called "Chattel" in France puts pictures on Facebook that shows very thick snow on their roofs and he moans about having to clean their driveway every morning before he can get the car out.
It must be great to walk around in that stuff lol.

Cheers and thanks!

It depends how high above sea level his town is. Maybe it's in the alps? Here in Klagenfurt we are at 446 m above sea level, and of course, we have had very much snow here too. I remember about 70 centimeters some years ago. But so much snow has become rare in the valleys.
At my parents house we have had up to 1.5 meters when I was young, but nowadays it's much less there too.

You are right as it is in the Alps and they also run a ski resort there.
446m is not that high above sea level and it is amazing to see how the snow levels have dropped there over the years.
It has to be something about the earth warming, as we heard yester that another very big ice block has broken off and is slowly floating on it's way down the Atlantic towards us lol.
I think we are about 4 or 5 meters above sea level.

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, it is certainly something like the earth warming, although I don't completely believe in that, but yes, there's something going on.

If he's in a ski resort it's sure that they have lots of snow 😁

Agreed as I am also dubious about this global warming thing, but facts are facts and 2019 was the hottest year in South Africa on record. So who knows how hot this summer is going to get?
I don't know if we will see 50C in some areas again, but I do know that it kills many cattle by heat exhaustion.

So yes, something is most definitely going on Hannes.

Yeah almost 1 meter on the cottage roofs and they have a thing that looks like a little quad with a ramp at the front to push the snow off their driveway!

Cheers and thanks.

I'm curious when the first palm trees will grow in Austria and first signs of sand dunes of a desert will be seen 😉
Climate is changing slowly and our winters are not anymore as they have been when I was young.

Yeah, they have quads and tractors here to get the snow off the roads.

We can laugh about this, or we can be very surprised one day when it happens.
In my young days my mom used to say that one day Pretoria and Johannesburg will be joined.
They are two of our biggest cities and they are 65 kilometers apart.
So everyone used to laugh at her "wild" thoughts.

In the 80s a new business center was built halfway between the two cities and since then, the new place has expanded in both directions that now connects the two cities.
So, if you joke about Palm trees and sand dunes beware, it might become true hahaha.

Same here my friend and something is going on!

Cheers and thanks!

Oh, I would love it and I would love to have a little desert somewhere nearby. Sand dunes, the curves of the dunes look so nice to my eyes :)

Thank you so much that you like the shots. I like the time before sunrise most of the day. It's all so silent and slowly the animals awake, the birds begin to sing ... 😁

That place is always very calm and peaceful, except when a swimming beaver notices the enemy, who is me, and smashes his tail on the water, what makes a very loud sound 😂
