Everyone has once been young and even some people have ghostly memories of their youthful years, how they lived it carelessly, aimlessly and even when they become older, they still lives in the shadows of their youthful mistakes, allowed it to define their adulthood. Living with innermost regrets carved out from the sufferings of their present. I have learnt that people don't appreciate opportunities especially when it comes to them very early in life. Life's generally hard and not everyone understands this at the early stages of their lives. The one's who understands it at an early stages of life are the ones that were deprived of the smallest of opportunities and as a result of this, they grow up appreciating everything.

It's always difficult for people to know how blest they are especially if they hardly put in any effort to get opportunities. Appreciation is something that makes us see value in things we didn't really work hard for. Some people has had their lives perfectly planned out for them and because they don't get to plan it themselves, it makes them unable to appreciate the essence to effort, hard work and even struggles. I have been exposed to pain right from my childhood and this makes me recognise the worth of freedom. I have worked my way out of my misery, taken a hold of my life while it was gradually slipping into depression and made meaning of it.

This is why I totally don't compete with people in terms of wealth, looks or even health status. Many times I have failed where people have effortlessly succeeded and when I look at why this is so, I see that we have ran the same race however on different terrain, different conditions and different circumstances. My life isn't what I ordered but then I try so hard to reshapen it go my own advantages. If we don't have flaws, or we don't feel we have flaws we can't appreciate some of the thinnest things we've been able to conquer and if we can't, then what's the essence of life by all means? This is why I always take time to bask in my little accomplishments because I know my origin and I know life never gave me many opportunities.

Sometimes we learn, other times we unlearn the things we have learnt so there might be space for us to occupy our mind with newer things that we have learnt. It's imperative for us to understand that because opportunities comes to us in platters of gold doesn't mean we're special or divine. Some people think they're special and that's why they're exposed to numerous opportunities and others are not. In life no one is special, we all breathe and die the same and when you get to be exposed to a life changing opportunity early in your life, never think that your life will always remain comfortable or rosy. Make the most of opportunities and don't think because you've been exposed to a good opportunity in the present, that the future will effortlessly be filled with them.

I usually take time to look at my mistakes, where I have been below par and this helps me to eschew humility. In life it's imperative we understand the need for humility. So many people confuse pride for self esteem and so many people confuse self worth for ego. Sometimes people aggrandised themselves simply because they're what they are and other people don't get to be the things they are presently. There are people who belief their actions are bereft of mistakes and their dogmatic mind makes it difficult for them to come to terms with the truth about themselves. There's no glory in pride because pride makes us feel entitled to opportunities when we should feel blessed and privileged to have them.

Oh yea, for sure life isn't what we all ordered for ourselves. And that isn't our fault to be precise. But it becomes our fault if we are not able to play it to our own advantage. Nice post man.. I repeat.. Nice post.

No further from the truth. I can relate to every line written above and especially the latter end to the article;

There's no glory in pride because pride makes us feel entitled to opportunities when we should feel blessed and privileged to have them.

When I see people feel entitled to opportunities, it just saddens my heart because they don't appreciate what comes easy to them, and even when they have it and when they no longer do.

More wisdom @josediccus. Keep up the good work!
