The only thing left in an acceptable state in that abandoned house is a statue, mounted on a rectangular white pedestal that matches the grey of the house.

Given how old it is, there are no definitive features about whether it represents a man or a woman.

At times it looks like an Indian, with a harmonious body and thick legs who is sitting on a piece of rectangular block.

This one on her back has a blurred inscription in an unknown language.

Jairo, one of the bricklayers hired to repair the house, which has been sold to a foreign family, feels a strange attraction to the monument and in every free moment he sits in front of it, on an adobe railing made around a big tree.

In that soliloquy I continue imagining conversations with her and one day she confesses that underneath her there is buried a chest with old Spanish gold coins.

He convinces his friend to work to get hold of the treasure and as expert thieves they plan how to take it without causing suspicion.

They have all the time in the world since nobody visits the place and this one occupies almost a block, where there are no neighbors since the other houses made in the same period of that one and constructed commercial premises were demolished, in addition the house has reputation of being home of ghosts that swarm inside her at night.

The easiest thing would be to remove it but the owner of the real estate company that sold and hired her said that nothing outside the house should be touched.

There is a room that is only one meter away from the statue and can justify the breaking of the floor because it is in bad condition, so like moles looking for water they make a hole one meter deep and then a tunnel towards the base of it.

A whole week's digging pays off and just as Jairus had said they get an old metal chest, sealed by a lock.

They almost cry with emotion before this great event, sure that inside is what the spirit of the Indian woman confessed to her.

When they go back through the middle of the tunnel, a strong tremor shakes everything.

The earth looks like it's going to open up.

An earthquake of great intensity ends up knocking down the house and walling up the tunnel with friends.

Only the statue of the Indian girl stands unharmed.

Two decades later, the municipality made a small square around it and restored the old statue. They also got someone to translate the inscription, which says that the day this place is desecrated the earth will wake up.
