My First Wednesday Walk on Hive
This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge by @tattoodjay. It's also my first post in the GEMS community.
The weather is fairly nice but the streets are quiet. Seems like a good day to take a walk down to Fisherman's Wharf and have a look at the houseboat village.
This is one of the prime tourist spots in the city and during the summer it's packed with people... Now it's like a ghost town and I had the place pretty much to myself. That's good because I'm trying to stay very far away from people.
When you arrive at the entrance there are several restaurants and take-out booths. As you might imagine, most of the menu is seafood. Everything is closed now, and not even take-out is available.
There are a few boardwalk 'streets' to wander down. If you live here you need to be accepting of the tourists swarming around your doorway waving their cameras in all directions. I've never seen the place this empty before.
I really enjoy the bright colours of the homes which can lift your spirits on a dull day. How would you like parking your sailboat right outside your door?
During the peak season the water taxis arrive every few minutes.
Here's another example of the bright colours. I just love that vibrant red! The houseboats are fairly small however, and you need to keep in mind... all the basements leak!
There is a marina beside the village filled with several rows of gleaming white pleasure craft.
A little further along the boardwalk you will find another section with many fishing boats. These working boats look a little drab compared to the white sailboats.
How would you like to live in a place like this? Picture yourself sitting in a lawn chair, gently rocking with the motion of the waves. If you were a mannequin like this lady, you wouldn't even have to move!
All photos were taken by me, @keithboone in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Thanks very much, @pixresteemer!

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)
Thank you very much! It's very strange to see places like this completely empty.
Very cool vibrant place to be living , hopefully it doesn't remain a ghost town for to much longer 😊
Thank you! You should see it in the summer, it's very cool.
I would imagine so , stay safe and healthy my friend 👍
hello happy friday i love the color and now it is very good being locked up at home
Hello, how are you? I still go outside, but I stay very far away from people. I hope you are doing well. :-)
Howdy sir Keith! What a colorful place! That Mexican seafood restaurant...is that Mexican Seafood or a place that makes both Mexican and Seafood dishes?
Well, I guess they use locally caught fish but cooked according to Mexican recipes? I dunno, it might just mean the owners came here from Mexico. :-)
You mean you haven't eaten there? When they open back up I think that would be an interesting post. Just the building itself begs to be photographed so maybe the food is memorable too!
Yep, I agree. Gotta give it a try.
