Ten Random Facts About Me

Welcome to my channel!.png

This blog is like a sequel to my introduction in this community. Day 2 of the 30-day Blogging Challenge is a pretty hard topic just like the introduction post I posted. I couldn't think of any interesting or fun facts about me or if I think something, I am wondering if it is interesting or fun enough to share here in Hive. But anyway, these are the ten random facts about me:

1. I want to study medicine but engineering happened.

20151029 11.18.02 1.jpg

My course choices in MSU-IIT were BS Biology, BS Accountancy, and AB English. When the SASE results came out, the university replied that I'm accepted in the BS Electronics and Communications Engineering. My mother was ecstatic I was accepted in engineering and not in biology.

She kept on saying I'll die inhaling the formalin. I'm asthmatic, so she doesn't want me to engage with chemicals. She didn't know ECE uses soldering iron. I had an asthma attack on my first use because I forgot to wear a mask.

We also don't have enough finances if I pursue my dream course. I want to study pharmacy then proceed with medicine. There is no BS Pharmacy in MSU-IIT. My mother wanted me to study only in MSU-IIT even though I had been accepted to a scholarship in other universities.

2. I am unlucky with phones.

1998CAM_2019_07_03_13_35_31_FN.jpg Don't mind the time frame.

I'm unfortunate with mobile phones. Luckily, my current phone is still surviving for almost three years already, my ultimate phone survivor.

I'll just list all The Series of Unfortunate Events with my Phones:

  • In high school, I gushed water on my phone.
  • When I was a freshman in college, my 1-month old phone was stolen by my classmate in Physical Education.
  • Another stolen moment, but it was at the church while I was attending an annual church conference.
  • My grandmother gave me a phone. It was broken during its stay in my hands. How powerful my hands were, at that moment!
  • It was my comeback performance after two years of not dancing and my phone got stolen during the event. I slept in the bus terminal because it was a 2-month old phone (postpaid) and I'm scared of my dragon mother.
  • My 8-month old phone (postpaid) was snatched by three men while I was riding a jeepney and writing a blog for Steemit. I chased the thieves without thinking that they could have a knife or any weapon. I stopped chasing when they went to a creek.

3. I collapsed, twice, when I had a One Piece Marathon.

20200620_202908_346.jpg

For engineering students, there is no such thing as sem-break, Christmas break, or any break you can think. But, I disregarded my conscience at that time and watched One Piece from episode 1. I did a series of overnights for almost two weeks. I slept around four or five in the morning then woke up around 8 AM.

That routine triggered my asthma because I didn't have enough sleep. So I used one of my inhalers and then I collapsed in a planking position. Until now, the wound has remained on my lips. A week later, I collapsed again for the same reason, One Piece marathon.

Lucky for me, I didn't collapse on my preceding and succeeding anime and tv series marathon.

4. I cry listening to horror stories.

IMG_20171224_003559.jpg

I love listening and reading to horror stories. But, I despise watching them on screen. When listening to horror stories, I cry. Even when I'm the storyteller, I still cry. After hearing the horror session, I always imagined it whenever I tried closing my eyes.

When we had an overnight session in the office before, we all listened to the horror stories on youtube while working. My supervisor was just beside me, and he sometimes saw me crying.

5. I sleep on the first few pages of Tomasi Book.

For ECE students, the book Electronic Communications System of Wayne Tomasi seems like a book with a high dosage of sleeping pills. I always fell asleep when reading it. During my review, it was one of the required books that must be read cover to cover.

I forced myself to drink a coffee and read the book, still, the effect was drowsiness. Lucky to read the whole chapter but I reread it because I'm puzzled. I don't know for the other ECE but for me and some of my friends, that's the effect of the book.

6. I don't like coffee.

20151107 04.30.05 1.jpg

I had my overnights in college and work without drinking coffee. My worst case was when I merely had a few hours of sleep for five days straight. On the first and second nights, I slept at least two hours each. On the third night, I didn't sleep at all. On the fourth day, I had at least four hours of sleep. The last day I had no sleep again and I didn't feel sleepy. Coffee was not the reason.

But, I learn to like McDonald's Coffee Float. Hah! I can tolerate the taste because of the sundae. So, I'll wait for the sundae to melt before I drink it.

7. I can sleep in any position.

IMG_20180706_22322801.jpeg

I can sleep anywhere and in any position. I think this is an acquired skill of years traveling to and from home to school, school to home, then home to work and work to home. I was working at the school I graduated from, so I traveled like this for almost a decade.

When I was in college, some tests were scheduled in the evening and finished at 9:00 PM or 10:00 PM. When I was working, I always had overtime. From the university to our hometown, the traveling time usually takes more than an hour.

If I missed the bus, I would wait for another three hours for the next bus schedule. While waiting, I sleep on the bench in a sitting position. If there were plenty of passengers in the terminal, I would wait till the bus arrives and sleeps in a standing position. When I'm swaying for three times, that was my cue that I'm near and I need to wake up.

8. I once tied to a rope while riding a motorcycle.

1998CAM_2019_08_22_13_25_01_FN.jpg

As I've said, I sleep in any position. When I was 17 years old, my father said he would go to his hometown. I wanted to go with him but, wehad no car, just a motorcycle. He knew I always fell asleep when traveling so he didn't want me to go with him. I begged and he gave in, eventually.

A soldier who always finds ways, he used a rope and a belt and encircled it around my waist to his waist. Next, he placed a load on the rear as back support. From Lanao del Norte to Zamboanga del Sur, I slept and that was 10 hours of travel, as he said. He wakened me when we arrived already. My grandfather was laughing because of the rope. They were surprised I was asleep even if the road is rough.

9. I am a Bibliophile.

IMG_20170930_110600.jpg

In my grade school days, I constantly brought my 4-inch to 5-inch thick Oxford dictionary. Our teacher would always ask us random words. Whoever saw that word first will read the meaning in front of the class and discuss what you understand. I ended up reading always in front of the class. Grade-schoolers love attention.

I love playing, but I also love going to the library and spent all my vacant time in reading books. By the time I was a graduating student in high school, I already read the books, encyclopedia, almanacs, novels, and some of the research of the alumni and alumnae. My goal was to fill my borrower's card every sem.

10. Matcha is everything.

20200525_155256_224.jpg

No words can express how much I love Matcha. Matcha is everything. I once added a Matcha powder in an egg. Then I toasted bread, fill in the egg with matcha, pour a little amount of condensed milk, and sprinkled a matcha powder. To complete the snack, I made Matcha milk tea with black pearls. Oooh! I'd probably make Matcha milk tea after I publish this blog.

So that's it for my ten random facts. You can also join the 30-day Blogging Challenge of @tegoshei. I'd love to read your stories!

Sorry to hear your phone experience!
Even though I have deep sleep, sleeping through the whole ride on a bumpy motorcycle is quite the extreme!

I do have a few things in common with you. Love One Piece as well and watched about 915 episodes so far. But things are kinda slower than before. It went to being stretchy after Dressrossa I believe.

A bibliophile myself. What kind of books do you read now usually?

It's an acquired skill. How I wish it's significant enough to pass a job interview. Hah! Okay never mind!

I agree! I stopped at Dressrosa arc. It took me a while to force myself to finish it. I haven't watched the anime nor read the manga for a year already. Maybe after I'm done with the series and anime that I'm watching right now, I'll go back to my beloved Luffy. :D

I read anything under the sun. If it intrigues me, then I'll add it to my Want To Read list. But when it comes to numbers, it would be crime and mystery, fantasy, poetry, and biography. I'm currently reading A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. After this, I'd probably finish the Throne of Glass Series or start my Greek Mythology reading list. How about you?

Not bad a skill, anyone with sleeping problem will tell you that!

Big mom arc is super boring, compared to that, dressrossa is quite eventful!

I also read a variety of genres, although some are a bit more regular on the menu.
I mostly read big-fat high-fantasy books and classical literature. Love me some mystery and crime too, if it's older than 50 years. 😄
Some non-fiction books on sociology/economics/politics, mostly to scare and torture myself. Some philosophy as well.
And cinema, a lot of books on it. But I guess, its a given.

I'm currently reading Toll the Hounds by Steven Erikson. No #8 book of the Malazan series and a satire by Dario Fo - Accidental Death of an Anarchist.
