An issue that affects us all, some to a greater extent than others, but in the end we are all affected by the same virus: Covid-19. More than a year ago our lives had to adapt to a new reality: a digital one, one of confinement, one of limitations, one of care and prevention.
I remember that at the beginning, when the pandemic had not yet reached my country, this terrible disease was in the news; I said: "Venezuela will undoubtedly suffer too" but deep in my heart I did not want this to become a reality.
One day before the President of my country dictated quarantine I was at a family party: It was my cousin's 15th birthday and how I enjoyed that night! I had a chaperone who made sure I enjoyed every dance, every meal, every drink, every laugh and every fall (I fell several times while dancing hahaha).
And when the sun came up and we had to be locked up in our homes, I said: "At least I enjoyed myself before the lockdown". Without knowing that this confinement would last more than 40 days....
Fortunately I work in the food sector so I never lived a real quarantine, I am one of the people who every day leave their homes to risk their lives so that every Venezuelan has the products "just around the corner".
Sadness invaded me every time I saw the empty streets, the homes without food because many in my country were unemployed or without the possibility of going to work, the Venezuelan economy worsening and the inconsistency of many who did not comply with sanitary measures.
Today I continue to risk my life, but things are different: there are more Venezuelans walking the streets. People cannot stay at home while their families do not have the monetary strength to cover their main needs.
Things are different: before the numbers of infected cases were just that, numbers; now they are family members, friends or acquaintances. And although we believe that in my house two people have had Covid-19 (it just looked like the flu) we try to take care of ourselves as much as we can.
My aunt has been in poor health for 22 years and definitely if she were to catch this virus she would not survive.
Before it was rumors, now it is a reality. A reality that has robbed many families of lives, happiness, stability; a reality that we must face without ceasing to take care of ourselves.
Un tema que nos afecta a todos, algunos con mayor magnitud que otros, pero al final todos somos afectados por un mismo virus: El Covid-19. Hace ya más de un año nuestras vidas tuvieron que adaptarse a una nueva realidad: una digital, una de confinamiento, una de limitaciones, una de cuidados y prevenciones.
Recuerdo que en un principio, cuando aún no había tocado la pandemia en mi país, sonaba en las noticias está terrible enfermedad; yo decía: "Indudablemente Venezuela también padecerá" pero en el fondo de mi corazón no quería que esto se tornara una realidad.
Un día antes de que el Presidente de mi país dictara cuarentena yo estaba en una fiesta familiar: Eran los 15's años de mi prima ¡Y cómo disfruté de esa noche! Tenía un acompañante que se encargó que disfrutara cada baile, cada comida, cada bebida, cada risa y cada caída (Me caí varias veces mientras bailaba jajaja).
Y cuando amaneció ya debíamos estar encerrados en nuestros hogares, decía: "Por lo menos disfruté antes del encierro". Sin saber que este encierro duraría más de 40 días...
Afortunadamente trabajo en el sector de alimentación así que nunca viví una cuarentena real, soy de las personas que día a día salen de su hogar a arriesgar su vida con el fin de que cada venezolano tenga los productos "a la vuelta de la esquina".
La tristeza me invadía cada vez que miraba las calles vacías, los hogares sin comida debido que muchos en mi país quedaron desempleados o sin posibilidades de ir a trabajar, la economía Venezolana empeorando y las inconsistencia de muchos que no cumplían las medidas sanitarias.
Hoy en día sigo arriesgando mi vida, pero las cosas son diferentes: ya son más los Venezolanos que transitan por las calles. Los habitantes no pueden estar en sus casas mientras sus familias no tienen la fortaleza monetaria para cubrir sus necesidades principales.
Las cosas son diferentes: antes los números de los casos contagiados era eso, sólo números; ahora son familiares, amigos o conocidos. Y aunque creemos que en mi casa dos personas han tenido Covid-19 (solo que parecía gripe) tratamos de cuidarnos hasta donde podemos.
Mi tía es delicada de salud desde hace 22 años y en definitiva sí llegara a contagiarse de este virus no sobreviviría.
Antes eran rumores, ahora es una realidad. Una realidad que ha arrebatado de muchas familias vidas, felicidad, estabilidad; una realidad que debemos enfrentar sin dejar de cuidarnos.
Esta es mi participación en la iniciativa de @theycallmedan a beneficio de @jauregui98 quien es un Hiver que ha trabajo mucho por esta gran comunidad y que actualmente ha tenido dificultades debido al COVID-19.

Los venezolanos se las han tenido que ingeniar para llevar la comida a su casa @leydil, y quedarse en casa no era una opción. Solo que ahora hay que tomar las medidas necesarias para evitar contagiarse. Gracias por compartir tu reflexión
