Helena la más hermosa de todos había decidido posar para el escultor más famoso de Persia, Zeuxis. En un principio Zeuxis pasaba horas y horas admirando la belleza y perfección de la hija del padre de los Dioses. No sabía cómo iba a tallar en la imperfección de la piedra aquella representación divina terrenal. ¿Cómo haría para que al momento de modelar en aquella pieza de mármol se advirtiera la tez pálida y tersa, la altivez de los pómulos o los carnosos labios?

Helena the most beautiful of all had decided to pose for Persia's most famous sculptor, Zeuxis. At first Zeuxis spent hours and hours admiring the beauty and perfection of the daughter of the father of the Gods. She did not know how she was going to carve in the imperfection of the stone that divine earthly representation. How could I make the pale and smooth complexion, the haughtiness of the cheekbones or the full lips appear when modeling on that piece of marble?

Helena a veces se asombraba y sentía miedo de la intensidad de la mirada de Zeuxis. Sentía como si quisiera con una daga muy afilada cortar su rostro y colocarlo en esa piedra de mármol que sería su busto.

Helena was sometimes amazed and afraid of the intensity of Zeuxis's gaze. She felt as if she wanted with a very sharp dagger to cut her face and place it on that marble stone that would be her bust.

Helena debía pasar horas y horas paradas. A veces no se le permitía comer o moverse, ya que el mínimo movimiento alteraría el modelo que con tanto afán se esmeraba en crear Zeuxis.

Helena had to spend hours and hours standing still. Sometimes she was not allowed to eat or move, since the slightest movement would alter the model that she worked so hard to create Zeuxis.

Helena se quejaba con su padre, diciéndole que ya no soportaba más. Estaba cansada de posar y pasar el día de pie. Zeus le respondía que debía agradar tanto a los dioses como a los mortales y un busto con su rostro traería mucha alegría y regocijo. Por momentos Helena aceptaba las palabras de su padre.

Helena complained to her father, telling him that she couldn't take it anymore. I was tired of posing and spending the day on my feet. Zeus replied that she must please both gods and mortals and a bust with her face would bring much joy and rejoicing. At times Helena accepted her father's words.

Zeuxis comprendía el por qué muchos no habían aceptado el trabajo de tallar a una diosa. Entendió que eran caprichosas y excéntricas. Pensaba que Helena por vivir con mortales podría ser distinta, sin embargo no era así. El padre de los Dioses le había vuelto a llamar para que fuera más tolerante con la pobre Helena. Para no enfadar al Dios Supremo, le calmó diciendo que ya pronto estaría la efigie de su adorada hija, que ya no habría más sesiones interminables de modelaje. Al retirase de la presencia divina Zeuxis pensó que los Inmortales no comprendían el genio humano.

Zeuxis understood why many had not accepted the job of carving a goddess. She understood that they were whimsical and eccentric. I thought that Helena because of living with mortals could be different, but it was not like that. The father of the Gods had called him back to be more tolerant of poor Helena. In order not to anger the Supreme God, she calmed him saying that soon the effigy of her beloved daughter would be there, that there would be no more endless modeling sessions. Upon withdrawing from the divine presence Zeuxis thought that the Immortals did not understand human genius.

Con un sirviente Zeuxis mandó a llamar a Helena, quien acudió mucho más tarde. Como el Gran maestro que era, Zeuxis, le explicó a Helena que había conseguido la solución para que ella no tuviera que ir todo el tiempo a su taller y gracias a esa solución no solo tallaría su rostro sino su cuerpo.

With a servant Zeuxis he sent for Helena, who came much later. As the Grand Master that he was, Zeuxis explained to Helena that he had obtained the solution so that she did not have to go to his workshop all the time and thanks to that solution he would not only carve his face but his body.

A Helena le encantó la idea, pero al momento de Zeuxis explicarle el procedimiento se sintió un poco aterrada y angustiada, pero el escultor le dio su palabra que nada le pasaría. Solo debía sumergirse en la bañera en la que se encontraba un líquido aceitoso y luego salir de manera casi inmediata, esto le proporcionaría el tan ansiado molde.

Helena loved the idea, but at the time of Zeuxis explaining the procedure she felt a little terrified and distressed, but the sculptor gave her word that nothing would happen to her. She only had to plunge into the bathtub with an oily liquid and then leave almost immediately, this would provide her with the long-awaited mold.

El salón del palacio estaba abarrotado. Todos esperaban con ansias el develamiento de la gran obra de arte. Ningún escultor se había atrevido a representar una Diosa.

Todos quedaron boquiabiertos con la magnificencia de la obra. Zeuxis había logrado captar la belleza, el resplandor de Helena.

Al ver la escultura todos creían ver a la mismísima Helena.

The palace hall was crowded. Everyone eagerly awaited the unveiling of the great work of art. No sculptor had dared to represent a Goddess.

All were amazed at the magnificence of the work. Zeuxis had managed to capture the beauty, the glow of Helena.

When they saw the sculpture, everyone believed they saw Helena herself.
