Sunny Afternoon In Asikkala
This picture was taken on a road built on a 7 kilometer chain of islands across Lake Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland.
The restaurant is open only in the summertime.
A view to the north

To the east. The 1.4 million people living in Helsinki Urban Area get their water through a 130 km long tunnel the mouth of which is about 10 meters below surface somewhere about 5-10 km to the south of here. The water goes to a reservoir in Vantaa (in Silvola in case you live there and know where that is from which it is led to treatment plants.
Lake Päijänne is at its cleanest here in the southern end. The Päijänne national park begins about 5 km to the north of here.
We drove on to the end of the chain of islands before turning back and having dinner in a restaurant in Vääksy, Asikkala.
On the way back. We didn't see any people on the ice. The smart thing to do is to stay away. Ice on large lakes like this is typically much more treacherous than on small lakes. That's because the wind is more likely to push and stack the ice leading to gaps in it that may freeze over and look perfectly fine but really aren't. Currents in and near the straits under the bridges here had caused the ice to melt completely.
