In December of last year when we took a few days of vacation in Mar del Plata, I found exhibited at the door of the train station an old locomotive exhibited in what would seem to be a kind of museum of what has remained in our country.

From the early 1900s to the late 1970s, the Argentine railroad for passenger transport enjoyed its splendorous years.

Nowadays the passenger train service is very deteriorated in my country, which is a real shame for the extension of our territory and a good train service would allow to maintain the country, helping to decompress the traffic on our routes.

Today in one of the few places in which the railroad works correctly is in the services that connect the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires with the Buenos Aires corourbano which is widely used by workers.

Over the early 1990s, the wave of company privatizations the train passed into private hands and with it came the decline of the railway system due to the lack of investment in infrastructure and maintenance of the track layout. Of course, for these years the service provided by the state companies that offered the service was very bad.

With the privatizations, many small towns developed around the interior stations practically disappeared, thus producing an increasing concentration of the population towards the big cities.

Although some branches have been improved in recent years, many years of investment and a true state policy for their development are still missing.

Today there are only the memories of a golden age and the occasional relic in different corners of the country that help to remember what we once were.

Big hug to everyone!

Gran abrazo a todos!

Here in India railway is still a most loved mode of transport. Still regulated by the government. Most of the people love to cover short distances using this mode which is economical too

Commuting by train is often the most economical way to get to and from work; It is the same here in my country. Travelling across the country by train is very costly though, and time consuming. It's cheaper to fly. I think the days of long-distance travel by train is largely gone now. It is a shame I think.

Here it is opposite....air travel.is costly as compaired to train. Although timing is a factor but people having enough time may opt for railway, so tht they have dual benefit, like saving and enjoyment

Ok, that makes sense. I live in a very big country and taking 4 days to get from one side to the other by train isn't really viable, so we fly generally. The rail journey across is seen as more of a tourist experience, and is therefore, very costly.

Nothing more pleasant than taking a train trip and being able to appreciate the sunrise from the dining car.

I remember that as a child with my parents we traveled from the Federal Capital to the city where I live today and when it was dawn we went to the dining room bag and there we enjoyed beautiful sunrise.

Beautiful moments lived!

I agree completely. That's what happens here. It's a three day trip. East to West and the train is luxurious and well-appointed. It is an expensive way to travel but the travel itself is the experience, not just the transport. I would love to do it someday, maybe train one way, fly back. I think the sunrise and sunsets would be the best part of the day. Thanks so much for your interaction with me. I appreciate it.

Here, unfortunately, the service is very bad and in the country we do not have the necessary infrastructure both on the tracks and on the trains.

Muchas gracias querida @marybellrg!

Besotes!

I like trains and feel that it would have been a civilised way to travel, and of course quite a good way to transport goods around the place. There are many trains in my country, a very big country, however they are mainly commuter trains in the city or trains that cross the continent loaded with freight. People tend not to travel in trains, other than in their daily commute to work. It's nice to see trains from yesteryear. I've been on a few tourist steam trains in the past. Such a nice way to travel.

Here would be a great opportunity to decrease the traffic of the trucks on our routes and to be able to slightly reduce the traffic accidents that occur daily on our roads.

Certainly that would be one of the benefits of railway, I agree. In very populated cities having travel corridors is preferable to millions of cars all over the place. There are many example of underground rail as well. Singapore, Paris, London, New York for example. They all see to work well.

I think it would be great to have some of these still circulating and made to be a part of tourism.

For the extensions that we must travel in my country it would be great to have a train service.

In several cities there are some old trains that make small tourist circuits!

Very nice experience to take a walk in them.

Thanks for stopping by here!

Cheers
