Returning to Pengambengan Beach
There is a beach in my home town I used to visit when I was a kid with people from my village during melasti (spiritual cleansing). It's called Pengambengan Beach and it was the biggest fishing area in my home town.
My last visit to this beach was long time ago. I remember vaguely where the beach is located. It felt so far away from my home. But then when I consulted google map, it estimated only 27 minutes drive. In the past, when I was a kid, I walked from my village to Pengambengan beach with many people on a religious procession. It took about 2 hours to walk.
Walking on The Road By The Beach
It rained the night before and the road by the Pengambengan bay was a bit muddy. There were puddles here and there on the road that I walked on. I did not think it was a good idea to ride motor cycle on this road, but there were many locals who did so.
It looked different from when I was here about 30 years ago. I just went straight to the black sand on the beach when I was a kid. I don't remember seeing this road. But then, probably I was mistaken.
I followed the road that turned right like an half or arch until the edge of the road. The end of the raod was called Pengambengan Sunset Point, since this was probably the best site to watch sunset.
From the sunset point, I turned left to a stones and concrete path that went to the sea. Obviusly, this path is also a construction to protect the land from abrasion.
I could say this is like a bay, or a man-made bay because at the other end I also saw another concrete path that went to the sea. Both concrete paths protect the the land from abrasion. Then again the area inside the two path become a safe area also for the fishermen to park their boats. I saw about 300 hundreds boats, big and small, in this enclosure.
The Sunset Point
Arriving at the sun set point, I stop for few minutes. The sun was still far away from the horizon in the west. And with the clouds hanging on the sky I did not think there would be any sun set that day.
Nevertheless, I still found it as a great place to visit. The sea looked so calm in this area. I saw some kids bathing and swimming in the bay area. Fishermen had a great conversation while maintanining their boats. And I saw some people fishing and casting fishing net near the area of sun set point.
The Path to The Sea
From the sunset point, I turned left (to the south west) toward the sea. Along the path, there were concrete blocks along the path. The path was built by lots of rocks and thee concrete blocks.
My son said the concrete blocks look like, Jaeger feet from the movie Pacific Rim. Well, I must say I agree.
When walking on this path, I realized that there was a lot of black fine sand flying on the air. The wind blew hard on the sand that it flew every where. I had to be careful with the sand or it will it my only camera.
As it was closer to the sea, the sand was wet. So, it was safe for my camera.
The beach could be seen stretching from a distance. The waves were quite strong and probably why there were not so many people there.
And finally, I got quite close to the end of the edge of the concrete path. I did not really walk to the end, I thought it was quite risky to do so. It was not an even path, wrong step, and you would end up falling. So, I just took photo of the edge.
I walked back to the route that I took to this place. Before leaving, I took my last photo of the sun set. I told you there would be no sunset because there were too many clouds! Well, it was still an enjoyable day. Thanks for joining me.
Your home town is beautiful and looks like my country somewhere.
Thanks so much for visiting.
Lovely photos and great work on the article, too. That place seems like a little bit of heaven on Earth.
By the way, how's your job situation? Have you already figured out what you are going to do?
Thanks. I haven't got a job yet 😅
