Social media Fasting - Week one!

avatar

I have successfully passed the first week of my social media fasting. Yeah, I'm talking about regular social media only. It was consuming so much time of my life, so I took the decision. It was not as hard as I thought and to be honest, I didn't feel much mental pressure to go back using social media again.

It was a must needed thing but I was not sure if I could do that, that's why I didn't talk about it before nor I shared it with anyone from my family or friends. But I made it! The truth is it was easier to pass time with social media than taking the decision to cut off social media from my life.

I was actually feeling very stressed and anxious for a few days; not actually for a few days, It's actually for months. And especially for a few days, I was not feeling very well, I was not having good sleep, my BP was high. I developed a very unhealthy habit to scroll on my social media feed before bed like half an hour or one hour sometimes. It was taking away my night sleep and couldn't make my brain calm down properly.

Do you ever give it a thought to cut off social media from your life?

For me, after uninstalling all the social media apps I felt really very refreshed. It feels like a pressure just gone from my head. It's not like anyone is forcing me to scroll on my feed but I couldn't resist myself. Going through thousands of unnecessary and meaningless content was not that productive and also not entertaining also. So why not just cut off and get more time for life?

If you are also feeling very stressed & anxious and not sure what's causing these. I will suggest fasting on social media. It will help you a lot to re-evaluate your usage of time and you can definitely get more time to spend on something productive. Especially in this pandemic situation, going through social media became very stressful. So many negative vibes and news. I guess staying away from all of this can be a good move to bring some mental peace.

And now I hope I can give more time to this platform. Okay, you would say that this is another social media or something similar. It's true but it's not that time consuming and the time we spent here is definitely more meaningful. I didn't fix anything in my mind yet like when I will go back to use social media again. But I guess I will try to at least stay away from everything for one month to see how this impacts my life. And as I have other apps for communication like messenger and zoom so I guess I will not feel any gap in communication. And, one month is a good time for evaluation, isn't it?

Much Love

I did the social media fast for 2 weeks and it was as though am missing a whole lot happening in the world. After the fast,i got to realize that nothing really happened and if something was very important, i guess someone would have called. After that fast, i was much better in paying attention to other things that were around me.. It is very healthy especially in achieving priorities.

You got it right through your wise decision.
I'm getting so much time now for everything and the stress also reduces a lot.
Thanks and have a great day!
