Uncut Gems Review - Nothing is Going Well

Who would have imagined that we might one day bemoan the failure to nominate "Adam Sandler" for the Academy Award ?! Or that one of the best movies of 2019 will be starring ?!

Adam Sandler, who is best known for his comedic roles and his light commercial romance films, made a new role, different and unusual, in which he resembled neither himself nor the roles he played before.

As critics and audiences praised Sandler's performance and considered him the best in his career at all; he deserved several nominations and won several awards for the category of best actor in many cinematic demonstrations inside and outside the United States of America.

While the film received an 8/10 rating on IMDB and 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, it also received several nominations for categories: Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director.

The story of the movie "Uncut Gems"

Official Trailer

The movie revolves around "Howard Ratner", a Jewish New York-based jeweler who is struggling with financial hardship and is trying to get out of it and pay off his accumulated debts by selling precious, rare and precious stone that he bought from Ethiopian miners.

Unfortunately, he loses that stone and spends several days chasing him while at the same time fleeing the hunt for his angry creditors.

Is it misfortune or miscalculation?

“Nothing is going well, I am sad and troubled and I cannot figure out what to do .. Everything I do does not work!”

Finding the stone is not the only axis around which the story revolves. With the pace of events in the film, we discover a new aspect of Howard's life and personality, his inability to pay his debts, and the collapse of his work, his reputation, his marriage, his family and his entire life, due to his addiction to gambling.

It is true that the series of bad events started with Howard Ratner's loss of the precious stone, but in reality he did not lose him but rather voluntarily handed him over to a famous basketball player and one of his regular clients, after convincing him that the stone would give him good luck and help him win his important match. On the other hand, Howard got the player's ring and mortgaged it, and instead of paying that money his debts went to gamble with them!

Driven by his love for gambling and his strong belief that it is the only solution to all his financial and family crises, Howard goes without a clear plan .. Dodging, bluffing, gossiping, shouting and making false promises that make his condition more and more - like any other addict - illusions Howard himself that this is his opportunity The only and last for success and will stop after.
It is this illusion that drives him to make a series of bad and wrong choices that not only affect his place, his profession and his money, but his life and the future of his family as well.

The last minutes craze in Safdi's two films

Similar to the films of the Heaven Knows What (Good Time) brothers, this film is also characterized by its rapid rhythm and an interesting story that puts the hero in a situation that is difficult for him to get out of within a short period of time; punctuated by breathtaking events that start from end to end without a single boredom moment.

For the duration of the film, we see "Howard Ratner" running here and there from his shop to mortgage and gambling shops, and from his home to his mistress's apartment, and from street to street in search of stone sometimes and to escape the pursuit of his creditors again.
This ongoing jogging through crowded New York City streets, screaming, chaos and noise, dark colors and loud music; you will feel tense, pressure and anxiety, frustration and annoyance, excitement and fun, suspense and enthusiasm ... a strange mixture of different feelings similar to what you might feel while watching your favorite team win or lose The last minute of the game.

It is worth noting that there is a new collaboration between Adam Sandler and the Safdi Brothers in a short film entitled "Goldman v Silverman".
