Raising Your Own Successor

avatar

If your success starts and ends with you without out-living you, then there is something really long. A good success should be sustained even after the person has gone. If every great idea ceased as soon as the initiator leaves, then the whole world would have been in a very dark era. However, we still see great innovations and inventions because these great people were able to raise people that will take over from them and that is why their successes were sustained through their successors.

Succeeding without having a successor is almost like a failure in disguise

I am sure you must have heard about the above popular quote or maybe in another variant. There is obviously truism in it. A person's overall net worth is basically measured in his network and in the people he has been able to replicate his successes in. It feels so sad to see a very successful person without having anyone to succeed him.

One of the greatest achievements someone can have is to be able to replicate themselves in the lives of others. If you continue to hoard the information or knowledge that should make someone else stand on their feet too, you are not harming the person but you are indirectly harming yourself. When you let out the knowledge, you are helping others to stand and no help is ever wasted. In the future, the benefits of that singular help will come.

If you are the only successful person in your neighbourhood for long and you have not deemed it fit to help raise others, then your success is really not success. Imagine if something attacks or challenges your success, there will be no one to help raise you back because there was no one you helped to raise in the first place.

It is worthy to note that when you are thinking about success, you should not only think about yourself nor think about the now. You have to put the future in your thoughts too. If you think about the future, then you will understand that your knowledge is meant to be planted as seed into others so that you will remain relevant through posterity.

You do not do good to just the person you share valuable knowledge with but you also do good to your future when you share valuable knowledge with them. When you raise a successor, you are consolidating on your success. To be selfish with knowledge is to be too myopic to see beyond the bend. I am sure you must have heard about this popular phrase:

A knowledge shared is a knowledge preserved

To preserve yourself and your successes through posterity, you have to replicate yourself in others.

Thanks for reading

Peace on y'all

This is definitely true...

And that's why in the African tradition, getting a male heir who can succeed you is important.
History has shown the frailty of this though.

Anyone, regardless of sex or tribe can be a worthy successor.

That's right. Worthy successors should be without recourse to sex or tribe.
Thanks a lot for the nice comment buddy. Have a blessed day
