Innocent smile - short story

The smell was so tempting.

A few moments before, he had fought with his mother. She had tried to give him the bitter medicine and he had spat it out. She looked helpless but she did not have the heart to punish him as he was not well. She made him lie down and swept away the mess. She then gave him a picture book and hoped he would find it interesting. He smiled at her and started going through the book. She did not smile back because she knew it would encourage him to behave like that. She went away and started to make his favorite snack - the banana fritters.

Sometime later, she could see his tiny little feet around the door and also how he was trying to peep in and see what she was making. She smiled and waited to see if he would come in.

He went inside gently and hugged her. She was tall and he was only four years old and could reach only her legs. He looked at her with beseeching eyes and she could see that he was sorry. She looked at him and he said slowly that he would eat the medicine. She felt bad and took him and placed him on the counter and kissed him. He smiled and gladly ate the medicine which she had now powdered and mixed with a little bit of honey.

He also was able to eat a small piece of the banana fritters. She stored the rest so that he could eat it when he felt better.

Then, they both went to the living room to read a story together.

God is also like this. He is our mother and father and he sometimes gives us botter medicine so that we become alright. So, never think that life is always full of troubles.
