Market Friday- Baguio City Rolling Market during the Quarantine.

Good Day guys!

Let me share with you about the Rolling market/ store that's happening in certain barangays(villages) located here at Baguio. A rolling store/market is when one of the stores that was arranged by the government would go to a certain barangay to sell essential goods to the people. It is usually held at the covered courts of each barangay. They government thought of this scheme so that the people in the barangay could buy their groceries there instead of going to the central business district. They did this to lessen

Let me share with you the experience of what my girlfriend had to go through when she went to her rolling store. This Rolling store was at Aurora Hill, they did it in their covered court. They were kind enough to put chairs while you're waiting in line to enter, social distancing was observed and it was a requirement to wear a mask.

There was actually no shade unless you're under a tree. Luckily she didn't have to wait for a long time before entering.

They were really systematic wherein only a limited amount of people could get in. It's like if 2 people would leave the market, only 2 people were allowed to enter.

As soon as you enter they would spray your hands with Alcohol.

There were handheld baskets that you could use while buying your groceries.

Most of the essential goods and household items were there like rice, bread, milk, canned goods, biscuits, condiments used for cooking, noodles, frozen goods, chips, coffee, personal care items and alcohol.

It was really spacious.

Upon lining up in the cashier, there were lines on the ground to follow to enforce the social distancing.

There were some problems that she encountered during her rolling market visits like the line in the cashier, she told me that it took her around 20 minutes just to check her items out and the products were the same every week because there only one store that's distributing.

image.png

After paying the cashier, there are stall that were selling fresh vegetable, meat and fish. But the items were limited to ensure that all the products will be sold by the end of the day.

That's the basketball court where they usually hold the rolling markets in Aurora Hill.

Upon leaving, she was really lucky because when you look at the photo, just look at the whole stretch of people waiting in line just to get in the rolling market to buy their groceries.

As for me, it is really convenient to have these rolling markets just to lessen the people going around the central business district. It would lessen the chance in encountering people who may have the COVID-19 Virus. I really think that our Government in our City is doing a great job battling this pandemic. I really hope that this pandemic will end and everything will be normal soon.

I am really impressed with the ideas of rolling markets. It is such an outstanding way to keep it all at a local level and stop the spread of the virus.

I was wondering about the chairs though.. Do they sanitize between people or do you move your chair with you? That and I am sure they are sanitizing the baskets between people. Boy - has this pandemic made germaphobes out of all of us!

I love this and I am so glad that you shared it with me! Take good care of yourself and stay safe!

About the chairs I don't think that they sanitize it. Yes, I agree this made us germaphobes. The most important thing is that we don't touch our face. Keep safe always @dswigle and have a great day!
