Interesting buildings across the East River

Working in Manhattan for close to 20 years, I noticed a lot of changes in the skyline looking across the east river to Long Island City, Queens, and Brooklyn over the years

This is a view I have seen change so much over the almost 20 years I worked in Manhattan, many of the buildings shown in this shot are new since I have been seeing this view. in the middle of this shot is the Iconic Pepsi sign.

and next up a building I noticed on a walk one day in my last month in the city, I have no idea what it is called but an interesting design,

now this next building its easy to know what it is called with the big sign on it, it is 1 South First building which is an apartment building and they describe themselves on their website as follows

One South First apartments redefine luxury waterfront living.

With exceptional views, state of the art apartment details, and amenities overlooking Domino Park in Williamsburg each unit provides a unique one of a kind living experience. Whether you're looking for Studio, 1 or 2 bedrooms, One South First offers the lifestyle you've been looking for.

Wondering how much it costs to rent there, Studio Apartments start at just under 3K a month and the top end two bedroom unit is just under $8k a month

And that’s all folks

Nice place, I think there is definitely a lot of new things to see, very imposing buildings, in combination with the river even more magnificent.

It's nice to see buildings that are not just a basic rectangular box!

Nice shots! The one with the hole in it is probably my favorite. I know that when you are in Manhattan it is easy to get wrapped up in what is happening there and not see the other coolness and beauty around you that is outside of the main borough.

Yeah I thought that one has such a cool style for sure, and yes I know what you mean people can be so focused just on the borough they are in

I love such skylines at the water and would love to live on the top floor of a skyscraper or this apartment building, but not for that price - I'm paying less than 10% for my apartment, but I have to drive about 10 minutes to get to the lake, which I unfortunately cannot see from my balcony 😉

Great shots as always JJ, hope you have a great day 😊

I would love to go up top of that last building or any of the tall ones for the view, but no way would I pay that price call me cheap LOL

I think, even if I could afford such an apartment I would know better things to buy for that money 😉

Ohh yeah thats why I never lived in Manhattan I thought the prices were crazy, I didn't mind communicating in from Queens, jersey or Ct, where I could get far better places for a lot less

But people pay for it - maybe the view is worth more money, but such prices are way to high ... let's see what I say when the Hive price rises to the moon. I think we had this dream before - what was it called? Steem or so? 😂

Ohh yeah I have colleagues who live in nice places in the city, and I think even if Hive goes absolutely crazy nd were all millionaires, I would not want one of these fancy upper scale places, I don't need fancy I would go more for functional

... like a house on the beach, which I would prefer 😉
Good morning JJ, have a great day 🙂

or for me with the hurricanes and storms we have had, I would be happy with a short walk to the beach but far enough back to be safe from the big storms ;)

good morning my friend have a great day

That's surely a good idea to have the house a bit further back - I never think of such storms because here the storms are usually not that bad compared to yours :)
Thank a lot for the tip and for the Hive for WednesdayWalk 😁

Most welcome and yeah I have seen the damage of some of the storms here and that make some be a bit more cautious :)

The last hailstorms a few years ago have damaged quite a lot here too (including my car ;), but most of our houses here are made of stone - the walls of my parent's house are one meter thick :)

WOW one meter thick, I have seen them in my travels but nothing like that here

Because the USA are not as old as my father's house ;) lol

well the USa for the most part compared to Europe is pretty young

... and we do have houses which are older, but not my father's house, which is only about 150 years old I believe.

an 150 year old house here would probably be considered very old lOL

It's just an old farm house and nothing special. It is no farm anymore, but if we should really move there when we retire a lot of work will be waiting for us in and around the house ;)

but is that work you would want when you retire, I know I am looking for a place with low maintenance ;)

My ancestors built the house back then and I should of course make sure that my descendants can still live in it ;)

But I do hope that my father does anything he can that I don't have so much of maintenance work to do, because he is a carpenter and has worked all his life long and I have only been sitting in the office my whole life long - also I have two left hands ;) lol

Thats another thing we have in common, My father was a carpenter and a pretty good one, he gave up carpentry and worked in a Sheep Skin tanning factory for the last few years of working but still did carpentry projects at home from time to time

and also in common I have no skill at carpentry I have tow left hands also

Cool :)
My father is 81 and after he retired he worked even more than before for friends, neighbors and other people in the village, but since a few years he doesn't work much for others anymore.
But at home there's always something to do and if there's nothing he searches for something ;)

MY Dad would have been 98 this January if I calculated it right, but he passed away in 2007

glad that your dad still keeps himself busy

98 would be a nice age for my dad, but we'll see. My grandfather has been 94 when he left us.
Yes, my dad cannot do nothing and that's good.

"Redefined luxury living"...hmmm. Waterfront living, I think, is most incredible, even when the dwelling is simple, modest (not "luxurious"). What use was that space before it was re-developed? For sure the waterfront views make owning an apartment in that building pricey!
Have a wonderful day, my friend @tattoodjay! Take care 🥰🌺🤙

I am pretty sure this building was built new for purpose of rental properties there is always such a high demand and hence the prices, I always lived further out and never felt the need for luxury
