Its all in the eyes

I have done a blog post about this mural before but I had a few shots I had not edited and I thought the eyes, especially of this mural, were so eye-catching and impressive that it deserved a second post

This was one of 5 Murals that were part of a joint Project between the ILO ( International Labour Organization) and a foundation Street Art for Mankind, all by different artists and all impressive in there own right, this piece is by Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada and is focusing on Child and forced labor

This piece was on 42nd Street between 3rd and 2nd Ave on the side of the Westin Hotel, and I saw this one as it slowly came together by the artist, as I walked up and down 42nd to my office at the time, here it is at work on one of the eyes

I will admit I was passing by all 5 of the murals at the time as they were being painted, and this one was the one that initially I was not impressed with as the colors were more muted and the detail not apparent, but when the artist added the two children working in factories in the eye it made it such a powerful piece.

and lastly showing the cool detail on one of the flowers with he Doveof peace flying out of it

And that’s all folks

Good morning dear friend @tattoodjay. I really like this type of work that calls for people's awareness. And how creative the artists when expressing in the eye of the work, one can say something with the mouth, but the eyes always express the true situation. Excellent shots.
Thank you very much for showing it to us
I wish you an excellent day

That is such an amazing mural and it's all in the details! They totally blow you away, the longer you look at it, the more it exposes itself to you.

I find it amazing that the artist themselves can pull out the architectural elements of any of the given space and harmoniously incorporate it into their idea or picture.

Howdy JJ! What remarkable work, absolutely stunning and great photos of them! Did you ever retire from your career? I guess you're still traveling to NYC to take photos.

I've been forced off steemit/hive by the Missus. After 2 years and nothing to show for it she had enough. I'm just on here enough to support and comment as much as I can in one or two hours a day.

I heard everyone was rejoining the EL, is that you too? Mrs. J. would kill me so I'm out. lol.

HI Mate, yes I did retire, at the end of February, digging into my archives for photos

Yes I was asked to join the EL and agreed, in a moment of weakness, I wont say anything about your missus do not want to get you in trouble

lol..well if Hive succeeds in a big way then I'll have some justification to come back! Keep on keeping on though, you guys are doing great!

What about retirement? Is it boring or are you enjoying it? It was perfect timing because of the virus wasn't it?

WellI hope it does climb and draws you back, then you can reclaim your seat at the top of the league, whosoever sits in it can never compare with the engagement levels you were at in the past

my retirement timing is good in a way as I started just as the Virus started here, but it has messed up my plans to move, but just taking it easy staying in and healthy and will get ton with things when it all passes

I hope the virus passes soon JJ. I don't know what the numbers are like where you are but man, NYC...wow. That's a serious situation. I haven't watched the news for a few days but I hope their numbers are going down.

Morning :)Here in CT we have around 73 thousand cases as of yesterday, I think NYC and CT are flattening the curve, the thing is people are fighting the social distancing rules feeling it is impinging there rights, LUckily that's the exception here but here I see it when we go for a drive, with big crowds by the beaches

The mayor just passed a new Ordnance yesterday setting tighter rules for the beaches and I think giving the police more power to enforce it, lets see if that helps

0

avatar

73,000 sounds like a lot for CT. I hope people have the discipline to keep the social distancing practices in place. The crowded beaches I've seen photos of is a little concerning!
I think most Texans are trying to forget about the virus so I hope it doesn't backfire here because we're back to business as usual except for large gatherings.
People are idiots aren't they? lol.

Sadly I have to agree with your last line, people are idiots, I do hope that states that are opening up now do not regret it as Japan and Singapore have and had to them close down again even stronger than before

Exactly. I bet you're glad you retired so you can do what you need to do to protect yourself and your family and not have to worry about work.

WOW, that is an amazing mural. And it must make everyone feel special and include for, like you, being able to see and witness it slowly come together as the artist completed the artwork through the days because I certainly would. And to be able to capture it in your photos is really special! Thanks for sharing this experience, my friend @tattoodjay.
Stay safe and take care 🥰🌺🤙

I love the details in the eyes. It's fun to see hidden details in paintings. I always find myself wishing I had that skill. I just logged into hive for the first time. Honestly feel like a newbie, but I decided to go down the friends list and see who was still around. Glad to see you still rocking. God bless.

Reflection in eyes tells a story, wonderful art display.

Child labour, child marriage normally arranged are so unjust, one simply cannot comprehend the suffering some children go through just to live!

Ohh yes with all the travels I did over the year and seeing the injustices to children made this mural so much more poignant for me

Arranged marriages with child brides is still a problem here, children have no say it is devastating trying to move from old cultural traditions into new world thinking.

Many homes running with older children raising younger siblings, child labor may be running underground networks, gangs training youth from young age. Yes the little ones are targeted, often not heard!

Thats sad, but child brides are still common in a few countries and we can but hope it will change and give children all around the world a real childhood without abuse

I love how you started your post with the image of eye on the mural to draw us in! @tattoodjay
The effect of the young children painted in the pupil areas is unique and makes a powerful statement.👁

Can you even begin to imagine how challenging of a job it would be to paint a mural of this size and concentrate on the details, especially with all the noisy hubbub going on in the background in NYC? How long did it take to complete?

Hope all is going well and you're staying safe, Jay!💫
