The axe forgets but the tree remembers

I have always agreed to the assertion that injuries may heal but the scars may never go away.

It is true due to the fact that surfaces prone to injuries are receptive at keeping evidence. However, there are degrees to the level of injury one can incur.

Injuries may be related to physical appearance but in the long run they go beyond the physical and extend to the emotional, mental, sociological, physiological, spiritual state etc.

Today, I have intentionally swayed my pen to express my thoughts on this broad topic but I will be specific with what summoned my attention.

Three days ago, me and my dad sat before the TV screen in excitement to listen to the news. The recent global pandemic has successfully captured me to become a TV viewer once again. After all, I lost the zest when I became a crypto convert.

Information is highly needed in these strange times and one source to stay informed is through the news broadcasted on TV.

After absorbing the content of the news that day, a short proverbial clip followed. It lasted for only one minutes.

It was in this short clip I learnt different proverbial sayings originated from different African countries.

Well, I can't remember all of it but the one that struck me the most, was the one of my homeland. The proverb says

"The axe forgets, but the tree remembers"

That's it above my dear readers, that's the proverb that struck my heart pondering. Simple, short, concise, deep and thought-provoking.

It is this proverb that made me narrow my thought to the assertion of "injuries, healing and scars" — the proverb intentionally ignored the object that wields the axe and that is what makes it beautiful.

Without stressing the brain to overthink on what object could wield the axe. I feel it was fair to leave that spot void.

It is only fair to leave the readers guessing that the only thing capable of wielding an axe is a pair of hands but you see, proverbial messages convey wisdom that can mean different things at the same time.

There are so many ways to incur an injury (relating it to the proverb of axe, forgetting, tree and reminisce). An injury could be caused by varying factors; depression, anxiety, disorder, pressure, accident, betrayal, breakup, disaster, sickness etc.

In our present time, it is potent to agree that most injuries people are incurring are more invisible than visible. To see them, social closeness and contact will be highly needed for them to be revealed.

Narrowing it to my own experience, I have also incurred one or two forms of injury in the past. One of them was the day I was scolded harshly by my aunt on a family matter that wasn't my responsibility to begin with.

I won't go deep into the details, I prefer it remains discrete, lol. Although the consequences of that aggressive scolding still affects me.

The only good news is that I just recovered from the emotional injuries in my heart. The scars are there, It is something that will follow me for a long time.

Summing it up, the point I am trying to make is that I was injured, I have healed but the scars are still there. In other words the axe has forgotten but the tree still remembers.

Thanks for reading.
