Hello Hivers

It's been three long weeks now since I took my first step into the world of driving and to be honest the feeling is kinda mixed. One moment it's super exciting, another it's me saying I can't do this then me getting scolded by my instructor then me feeling so bad that I lose appetite for food in the most spectacular fashion and then it's all laugher and all.

Well I am definitely not gonna make this post about myself totally but it will be a mix of my experience on the road, some valuable lessons I learnt, basically making sure we drive safe.

One the first day I was to get myself registered in the driving school 🏫, I got to the office of the instructor and the first thing I noticed was a giant billboard and to my surprise it was filled with pictures of accident/ crash site. The images were very unsettling to be honest and up until this moment,I don't get the reason for having this kinda scary portrait of what the raid can be like.

The driving class proper was divided into six different segments

DRIVER ORIENTATION

  • Who is a driver
  • Qualities of a good driver
  • Causes of a road crash
  • Crash prevention
  • 1st Aid
  • Health of a driver

ROAD SIGNS AND SYMBOLS

This is basically the part I want to dwell more on as it is in my own opinion the most important as regards safe driving or driving safe

Safe driving entails basically for me driving to stay alive, protecting yourself against any form of danger on the road. Driving to stay alive, to continue to drive without injury or assault to himself, the car, the road and other road users.

The various road signs and symbols help to a great extent to eliminate or reduce road crash and brings about much needed sanity on the road.

Road signs come in various shapes colors and code for easy identification.
It is basically divided into three

  • Danger/warning sign
  • Informative sign
  • Regulatory sign

Danger/Warning sign

Warning sign are usually triangular in shape with a yellow or white background, red triangle and a black inscription.

Informative sign

They are rectangular in shape, green in color with a pictorial object providing guidance information

This is divided into two

  • Prohibitory sign: circular in shape with yellow or white background, red circle, red barrier and a black inscription.
  • Mandatory Signs: they are circular in shape, blue in color with a white inscription. They give positive instructions.

I would have love to go into details about what each of this sign and symbols mean so we get to know what it means when we see such signs on the road but am sure if I decided to do that, this post may become too long and boring.

For those in Nigeria you can check up the Nigerian Highway Code to get the meaning of these signs and symbols. Don't know of other countries though but feel free to share if you can about that of your country thanks.

Well, on a more funny note, I have spent some time trying to see how I'll drive this car from where it's parked by dad to some place, like just drive around a little bit as they say practice make perfect.

Don't know maybe I have amaxophobia or vehophobia which is what they call the fear of driving 😩😩. But it's all good though, with time I'll settle in I believe.

Please feel free to let us know how to go about getting information about driving laws in your country if you can.

Thank you all for viewing and enjoy your weekend 💞💞
