MY INFORMALLY EDUCATED MECHANIC
Hello Hivers
If you are someone who lives in Nigeria or has travelled down here for one engagement or the other one very prominent thing you will notice about the country is the very unstable power supply across the entire nation. One thing I trust so much about humans is the ability to always find an alternative to everything they are confronted with, get an alternative to every problem they face.
The unstable power supply has lead citizens to try and find an alternative and for years the Generator set has been the numero uno alternative used to generate electricity in the country, infact almost all capable households own one. I say capable households because unfortunately not every households can afford one.
Recently though, the generator set in my home got faulty and it was all my fault In a way, I'll come to that soon.
THE MECHANIC
I invited a generator mechanic to the house to help fix the generator and he came and got to work. Within a few seconds he had already dismantled my generator into the smallest of pieces.
I was amazed by such ingenuity, the way he got every detail right and all so we got talking
During our conversation, I got to know that he never got this knowledge from a formal education setting so to say.
He made me understand that aside going to a formal school, he spends most of his holiday in a mechanic workshop where he learnt this very skill and due to the closure of schools as a result of the Covid19 pandemic, he dedicated his time to the mechanic shop and he has basically become a professional even without a formal education, atleast not yet completed though.
To be very honest, with the way he was all up on my generator set, it was like he was making mockery of some so called educated mechanical engineers so to say.
Back to my generator set though, he made me realize that the engine oil was the cause of all the trouble that I should have changed the oil as it is bad already. He adviced me repeatedly to always be on the look out for the generator engine oil so as to change it as at when due.
I totally learnt a lesson today that it is not all about formal education and the fact that you don't waste your time because for this mechanic if he had decided to sit at home due to closure of school he won't have this skill that is fetching him cash now.
Thanks to my mechanic though, my generator is back working perfectly and okay.
