My maize and Cassava lockdown farm, starting and the improvements on it so far// 2 plot of land used
Hi hivers,
As a graduate of building engineering from a reputable university here, i deemed it fit not to be idle during this pandemic lockdown, so i engaged my self in a mini farming and also have two garden extra to it.
As we all know that agriculture is the back bone of any country and let me even say of every individual, its mandatory to eat.
So let me take you through one of my mini-farm that i started on may 2020 on a 2 plot of land which is a virgin land [means:it has not been cultivated upon before]
I have it in mind and decided to plant maize and cassava on the land but it is a virgin land like i said, it's very bushes, before anything is done on the i have to do the following.
- Clearing :
I cut down all the tress that are there and also all the grasses and i packed them in one corner of the land because it's fenced. After cutting i left the land for some days to be able to regain itd strength before cultivating ridges.
- Cultivating ridges:
I started cultivating the ridges small small with manuel labour{hand} and it last me and my nephew 5days to finish it up and immediately after cultivating the ridges i planted maize on it.
Progress of the maize.
After two weeks of planting maize, i started looking for cassava stem, damn it, it was so scarce but i didn't relent and i got from someone. I took it home and cut it into smaller sizes.
Planting of the cassava :
Transportation of cassava to the farm
I distributed the cassava stem ontop of the heap. So i atarted planting with cutlass and making sure the growth edge faces up. The cassava couldn't cover all the whole farm, it just cover quarter of it, i will still be loooking for more and i prayed to get.
Some uses of maize:
It can be roasted or boil to eat
It can be cooked with beans{Egbò}
It can be used for making pap
It can be used in preparation for making yam flower
Uses of Cassava :
It can be use to make garri
It can be use to make apu
It can be use for making of starch
The leaf of Cassava is also used for cooking soup.
Expect the progress of my farm as times goes on.
Thank you for visiting my blog
One love💞💞💞💞
Awesome work man! I love seeing the progress here. You’ve done an amazing job transforming the land from virgin ground to a decent sized farm!
The other thing I love is that you understand the need to stay active and engage your mind with a task. So many people don’t do that, using the pandemic as an excuse to sit all day and watch television or something. Not you! I’m really glad you’ve done that, and planted food for yourself and others!
Thanks so much for sharing this!
Hum am overwhelmed with your kind gesture towards me. Thank you very much. I will definitely be keeping you posted on it. Thanks alot i do really really appreciate your comments. 💕
