THE BREAK IN

Today started out as a really good day. I woke up energetic as usual, got dressed for work and left for work. I got to work pretty early as usual - I like to be punctual. Everything seemed okay until it was time to open the office.

The office is part of the many offices in a mall, so basically everyone has their space. I was ready to insert my keys to open the door when I noticed the door was already open.

It was like an electric shock went through my body at that moment and I asked myself did I leave the door unlocked yesterday, since I'm always the one who locks the office. But I remember securely locking it myself, I never make that mistake.

On closer look I noticed there's been a break in, the sign of forcible entry was obvious because the keyhole was gone. I went into the office in a panic state and noticed all the laptops were gone! My corner has been ransacked, same as that of my other colleagues.

In the same panic state I called my senior colleague to tell her what had happened and was on my way to tell the management of the mall when I noticed other people were there too. We weren't the only ones affected. Everyone was asking the same question. Where were the security men?

After they were able to calm everyone down, the management informed us that they had called the men that were on duty last night and they were on their way back to the mall.

When they arrived they said no one out of ordinary entered the mall last night and they noticed my office door was open at night but thought we forgot to lock the door, so they didn't think much of it. However, they documented their findings just in case.

After a while, they called me and some others to go to the police station to give a formal report of the incident. Since I was the one who noticed what had happened in my office, I had to be the one to give the official statement on behalf of the branch.

I can't begin to say how irritated I was as to how the policemen took the whole case with levity, we practically had to pay them to take our formal statement. The sheer incompetence was disgusting but that's a story for another day.

After we were done writing the statements I left them to go attend to some of our clients since I was the only one at the office and they didn't take the old desktop, so I had to work with that - it made my work pretty slow but I didn't have a choice.

I ended up leaving the office pretty late since I had to juggle between recounting how I met the office open every time they inquired and attending to impatient clients. I got home not quite long and I'm exhausted. The story continues on Monday.

Thanks for stopping by ❤️

It's so heartbreaking and touching to read this article, stealing has become the order of the day in our country where most people prefer to engage in an unlawful acts just to make an ends meet, it's so shameful but on the other hand I really thank God that no life was lost on this operation, they have practically now left the owner of the company with a huge loss to start buying new laptops for staffs to work with. We always see this kind of issues almost every day's and it's so bad that people can no longer be trusted with vital properties, I was so surprised that the securities couldn't even account for any of the incidents that happened because it's their duty to protect those properties but they have failed in their duty I know they will be questioned by the police but my problem is the lackadaisical attitude of the police force we have in this country is in fact in Africa as a whole imagine asking for money just to write a statement of how something happened that's so unprofessional. I'm really sorry for what happened at the office I just hope the police can do something about this and investigate to get the perpetrators of this evil act.

It's sad to see what has become of the country. Theft, kidnapping, all sort of criminalities is on rampage and no one is doing anything about it.

The strange thing is that one of the security men on duty is known to do his job to the best of his abilities. I can vouch for him that's why I believe it was an inside job in the sense that this was done by one of the many companies in the mall. I'm 100% sure that man wouldn't have let anything like this happen if he was aware.

The attitude of the police is another reason I believe this case may go unsolved or an innocent person will pay the price. Because they just want the money they don't care about justice.

Thank you for your comment!

I once had that experience early this year, it was like a dream I could not believe my eyes. It's really sad, insecurity is one main problem today

I'm sorry you had to go through that. The rate of insecurity is increasing per day. Sometimes I wonder how we got here as a country.

Thank you for your feedback
