Lessons Learnt
A heartbreaking and life-changing experience in my life was when I was rejected from all overseas universities to which I applied for scholarship. Back in my days in Middle & high school, I was a top tier in my academics.
I had a good confidence in myself, which later led to an overconfidence.

I've always thought the educational system in my country doesn't fit me, and that I deserve a much better education. When I finally got an admission to study in a university here, It didn't take time for me to start hating the whole education system, and this alone made me to start applying to different colleges abroad.
Once I got into the allocation process and started to learn about the universities I was applying to, things got worse, and I wished never to step a foot ever again in my university here.
I was filled with negativity, always looking at what my university lacks as compared to the ones abroad. I was busy 24/7 stalking on education and life abroad. Basically (Like my friends always joke about), I was living 20% here and 80% abroad.......hahahahaha🤣🤣🤣
As a result of this, my grades started dropping drastically and my life here became messed up. I never cared about any of that because I thought it would all be useless once I travel out.
When I was about to check my admission status I was so puffed up and overconfident that at least 1 or 2 colleges will accept me. But unfortunately for me, that never happened. You can't start imagining how I felt knowing that I was rejected by all the universities I applied for. It was really a tough moment for me that period.

I was only fixated on the negativity I had on my life here, and I thought only this frustration will get me a scholarship without me sweating on the exceptional skills that I should demonstrate to deserve their generosity. I guess my thinking was wrong since it ended up not giving me my desired admission.
I learnt from this experience that I can't get a happy life by dishing my mind in a thought of no matter how miserable my life is, it will be awesome when I get this and that, and I will be so fulfilled and happy then because that's not how life works.
Complaining about what's missing is a job of a fool, since life should be about looking for what's missing in things and looking for opportunities in that.
Besides negativity will only bring you negative results.
I have learnt from all the things in my environment, and I have built up my self to a level where I bring out the best with everything around me. After all life is all about what you can do with what you already have, instead of what you would do with what you may or may not have in the future.
Thank goodness I managed to get back on track after learning my lessons. Fortunately for me, I was able to graduate with a good grade from one of the prestigious universities in my country.
Thanks for reading.
That must have been really hard on you. Sometimes we are too hard on ourselves. But glad you realized what the negativity you put yourself into was damaging you and that you got back on track.
I'm so glad I had to come back to my senses even though it was after I learnt my lesson the hard way..
Thanks for your comment
Did you ever end up going overseas, even for an extended period at some point? It sounds like a dream not realized, like George Bailey almost from It's a Wonderful Life. All the time though you are here for a reason. That has got to make you ponder?
Sounds like you gained some wisdom too!
I did gain some wisdom from my being overconfidence. I have never left the shores of my country to another country. Hoping soon though.
It was a dream not realized but I hope soon it will.
Thanks for your comment
This is the experience with most you people. We want to be able to be what we like but we don't take note of our environs.
Lessons learnt indeed.
Guess we've been listening so much to this motivational speakers that are asking us to dream big.. I wanted to dream big.. 😂
Just yesterday, one of my students who was doing very well as a surveyor here in Lagos traveled for greener pastures and started having issues with bullies and someone planted contraband in his luggage.
So sad... This is definitely going to affect him. No where is safe, no where is better.. God help us.. I pray he is able to flee himself from this mess
It's getting messy. We have been in touch with the Nigerian embassy in Ukraine.
I pray it get resolved soonest.
It is so sad that we don't value what we have here sometimes. A lot of people are suffering in other countries in the name of going abroad. I hope your student find a way out of the mess soon enough.
It's a pathetic situation but we are on it. Plans are already on to move him back to the country.
That's right. There are several opportunities around that we simply miss by looking too much at the closed doors.

Thanks for your unfailing support..I pray God gives us the ability to be able to understand our surroundings so we can take advantage of the opportunities there in.
You know, if we believe God is there with us, we find him just there. Adversity turns into the opportunity
Fact.. I love this..
Is good you learned the lesson on time and still ends up with a good grade.
We need to learn to focus and enjoy the things we have, it is not always greener on the other side only when we water the ground.
This is the bitter truth, sadly, not many of us want to accept this fact. Thanks for your comment

Men, I know what it means to hate this educational system, it's really nothing to write about. I always had the thought of travelling out to go study too but most of the schools I applied too were too expensive for me to afford ..
Glad you found your track again and got everything set, it just takes time man. You'll be alright
Came here via @dreemport
I wasn't even worried about the fees.. I just wanted to be accepted and then I will handle the rest but I was just so over confident..
You know things don't always work out the way we want it to be..
Thanks so much for stopping by
At least you have learn the lesson that we have to make the best out of every situation that we are facing.
Congrats on getting a good grade after so much disappointment from not getting the admission from the international University
Thanks so much.. Guess every disappointment is a blessing in disguise after all
Life is a lesson.
It must have been tough for you at that time, good thing you were able to come out of it successfully.

It wasn't easy coming out of that state, but I did.. Like you said, life is a lesson.. We learn each day we live..
Thanks for your comment
Fortunately you were able to learn your lesson. That's what life is all about. Sometimes that's exactly what we lose our lives in, trying to achieve something we think we'll be happy with, but that's not what happiness is all about. Rather we will never be satisfied as long as we think that way, because if we get one achievement we will desire another and the satisfaction will only be temporary. Good that you were able to make the best of your circumstances and that made you grow as a person and put your feet on the ground. Thank you @davidbright for your honesty and sharing your story with everyone 🤝.
Thanks for reading through and also sharing your honest comment.. I appreciate this.. I'm glad I am a better person after such experience...
I am very glad. One thing I forgot to tell you. You did very well to share the source of your images, but you should also put the source of the separators. I hope you can correct it.
Is the source of the dividers that important? This is the first time I'm hearing this though... I have always used them and I've for once sourced them. I don't even have a source for them since I have so many of them on my phone.
As the saying goes, "it is better to have too much than too little ". These dividers undoubtedly have an author. Perfection is in the details.
I understand.. Since I don't know who the author is, please what do you advice I do?
You can check this link. There I think I saw your splitter. At the end of your post you can mention the source you got it from, maybe @thepeakstudio. I hope it helps, you do a great job 😊

Thanks so much for this.. But with what am seeing, the splitters ain't his. So should I still give credit to him when they ain't his?
Actually the source is where you take them from. If you take them from a page you can cite it as a source or the author. If not, you can cite the page from which you took them. have a nice day!
Thanks so much.. I appreciate
