Freeing your mind. A letter to Amber.

avatar

You know when you have those moments in a conversation that you know is a significant exchange between two connected souls? @amberkashif and I had such a conversation the other day. I thought it was just me - but later I saw her write a post, and mention the same conversation. We both remarked how important it felt, and that we both felt compelled to share more to any other person struggling with the same thing.

I told her to write her side, she told me to write my side. haha

So - Here is my side.

I love Amber.

Whenever my DM lights up from her, I will drop whatever I'm doing to have that conversation with her. She is that kind of person. She does everything with excellence, heart, purity, and quality. She juggles a very busy life at home - but when she writes - she WRITES.

So when she came to my DM, telling me that she was struggling with writing, I definitely wanted to take the time to hear her heart. She began by telling me what was really stopping her: the fears of imperfection, and feeling like her words were not worthwhile enough to pen to paper (key to blog! lol)

I asked her if she enjoyed writing. Because that is important, isn't it? Just because we do something well - doesn't mean that we enjoy the process.

After a few minutes of back and forth, I asked her again. hehe Isn't it funny how sometimes we don't realize that we are avoiding a question? Until it's asked again! Then we pause, and think, as she did.

Again, we went back and forth a bit - until I asked her this,

"Think about this.... what if you were never able to write again. how would you feel?"

She replied that she would feel like she was dead.

That's really key isn't it.

When you have a gift unable to be expressed for any reason, and it feels like your soul is dry without it - You know that is a gift you need to protect!

The following became my "letter to her".
And if it helps you, please feel free to read this to yourself.

The Letter, (Part 1) (1).png

Then.... you should have the feeling of life when you write - and not self-judgment/self-criticism/ overexpectation. That doesnt come from writing. That comes from what others (and yourself) have placed on it.

I think that we - as women - struggle with our own voice, thinking that it doesn't matter to others. Thinking that it must be polished - just so. Thinking that it must be perfect before it's valid, but that's not true.

Our words are life. It's how we express our emotion... our analysis... our struggle... our joy. Our sadness. our hope. our anguish.

This cannot be perfected. Humans are not perfect. There is perfection IN the imperfection,
because its raw and vulnerable and relatable. Instead of writing things to "present" to people for approval. Write because you love it.

Write and let yourself be free

Don't change the gift that is in you into something else. Allow it to be what it is - and honor it. There is no wrong.

And when you write? Not everything needs to be shared.
Some are just for you.
But some - you know should be in the world.
And it doesn't have to be a Pulitzer prize winning post
It can just be to an audience of one - the one person you want to connect with.

Don't be ashamed if there are no comments - or no upvotes. This is "popularity" - not connection.

This is the value of networking over time... and marketing.

But your voice is your voice, and it is a gift, and you are a writer.
How do i know?
because you MUST write.

So take away all the obligation and burden and - allow the fear!
Fear is good - it's real.
but don't let the fear STOP you.

Don't let it impede you.
and if it does??? WRITE about that!🙂 but write!

There was more, but this post is long, and maybe part 2 will reach a different audience that needs to hear that!

Either way, if you read all of that? I hope it helped you. And it doesn't just apply to writers! It applies to artists and musicians and songwriters and photographers and all kinds of content creators. Your passion is a GIFT. Use it! 😊

I'll share part 2 soon. or.... maybe @amberkashif will touch on those things in her post! I don't know - but I know I'll keep an eye out for it! ❤️

My gift is my passion.... I am going to have to use it

But what if you have more than one gifts, ma'am?

Everyone would have different advice on this ..but I do have multiple passions also.

What I do?

I prioritize them.
You can't do everything 100%.. it's just impossible. Something would suffer.

And you have to ask yourself.... Do you want to do 3 things at 33%?
Or would you rather do one thing at 100%

It doesn't mean that you can't ever put time into those other things. It just means there are seasons.

Sometimes you actually MIGHT want to juggle two things temporarily.

It really is all about the season in your life, the time you have to commit, and the pressure that you're able to willingly submit yourself to. Hahahah

But the most important thing is....for you to have peace with whatever you decide :)

Gift is the a great thing we need much guide and develop everyday.

We should not stop develop our gift because is part of us and we should see it as a something we must grow it in life.

Since is what we love and desires, we must be tried of it

This is thought-provoking!

Just because we do something well - doesn't mean that we enjoy the process.

This is a quotable quote, ma'am and well said.

I'd always thought once I am passionate about something, the process should be easy, right? In time and with experience, I learned its not always so.

We are blessed with gifts. We sharpen them by putting them to work. When we cease to, they become 'blunt' and we may lose them.

@amberkashif, I hope you are encouraged to keep writing because you are a great writer! 🙂

Quotable quote! Indeed.

Thanks for the appreciation @kemmyb

When we cease to, they become 'blunt' and we may lose them.

It is true but the case is not always this. Sometimes, we do not cease. Sometimes we still do great but still we are not open enough to appreciate what we do

You will get there!!

It's a journey for us all ❤️

Each day we take another step closer to what we need to learn AND teach. Hehe

But we are all on this journey together, and that makes it a little more pleasant and manageable! :)

Yes ...hehehe sometimes the process can be pretty painful hahahaha

It isn't always enjoyable to express our gifts...

But I will also say- just because it's painful doesn't mean we can skip it! Hahahah

There are lessons in the journey. We just need to do what we do....and do it well and for God's glory ❤️❤️❤️❤️

-Even before I always tell @amberkashif that she is a good writer..all she needs is to believe in her skills..yes it is a gift. When I write I write from the heart and I will never post an article if I am not happy with it, as long as it is following the policies and standards I don't mind if people will comment or will like it. Yes they may say, "Make sure others will appreciate so you will gain a lot of votes" and you did but what about you? Your self is not happy with it? There will be no contentment in it..no satisfaction..
I am not a perfectionist and I never compete with others but myself only..in that way I have a great chance to improve without any pressure. Sometimes I felt disappointed with my ownself hehehe if I think I made a mistake in performing a task. I became paranoid because of what had happened at my workplace intentionally done by my superior and it has been blamed on me out of revenge (later on the truth came out) for I was the Department Head and it almost destroyed the whole system of our company and my career. The fear of doing a mistake is so hard to remove in my mind, I know I will overcome this soon, and no such thing as perfect in any aspect of life❤

You have been appreciative of my work since we met @aimharryianne . Thanks for your love ❤

I never compete with others but myself only

Don't you think it is a hindrance in its own? I feel this very comparison with my ownself an obstacle to my work. You cannot perform the same way all the time. You are prone to do mistake even after practising a hundred times.

The fear of doing a mistake is so hard to remove in my mind

Yes, it is. Fear of anything is hard to remove. These are the fears that let us live below our potentials.

-Hi Sis! Aha..you are not appreciating your own gift..hehe..
Well, competing to own self will never be a hindrance..just make a target of "even 1% better than yesterday" is a great motivation to ourselves.
You could check what others are doing..just to get an idea but without competition, just make them as inspiration..that is my principle in life, I have applied it both on my career and studies..Because if you compete..your focus is divided..full of pressure..that is how I see it.. Just improve what is in your hand..flourish it..you will be surprised you are already in the best version of your self because you have enjoyed everything without pressure..and I know you could surely make it!❤❤❤

Hehe. You are absolutely right. But I am talking the things in another way. Experience differs. Sometimes, I don't feel likely to produce something because I feel it is lower in quality than my previous attempt. So for me self competition is a hindrance

But we all make mistakes.. it takes time for us to realize that we can't do everything right all the time.

Sometimes, it's good to make mistakes because they prepare us for the future! :)

I'm learning this a LOT this year 🤣

-Indeed! Our mistakes help us to do better the next time..even for the wrong decisions that we make in the past..mistakes help us to be more cautious to avoid further mistakes..in the future!❤

It is feeling like I am reading all the things for the first time. Although everything is just there in my dm. I felt sentimental again. Hehe.

Sometimes we avoid questions and sometimes we don't understand them the way they are. Sometimes the things are simpler yet we make them complicated for us. Perhaps the key to be free is to free us from complications of thoughts.

Hmmm. It is the first part. I would love to read the second too.

The letter I will write about would be what I interpreted, not the actual words. Lol. You have already written them.
