Random Thought of the Day - Daily Contest #58 - Does a person’s name influence the person they become?

Hey folks. How is everyone doing.

Got quite a random one today!

Does a person’s name influence the person they become?

Random Tune of the Day

Proper old-skool rave 😉 Seen them live in 1992! At a massive all night rave called Awesome 101 in Edinburgh.

Random Quote of the Day

“Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you only spend it once.” — Lillian Dickson

I have started this competition in the hope that it will prove to be a fun and interesting way to get people to interact and engage with each other here on #proofofbrain. After all that's what it is all about.

It could be about anything really, ranging from a memorable quote to a story or maybe just a random question about life itself. Literally any subject is open for discussion but I will try and not let it get too crazy !

You are also welcome to talk about any other random subject you like.

To enter the competition you simply have to make any type of comment on this post and I will do a daily random draw for 3 lucky winners.

You are not required to Upvote, Re-Blog or Follow but it would be quite nice. 😁

If you really want to show support for #rtotd you can always use the promote button on on any of my daily posts and burn a #pob or two to get the post more exposure 😉

Prizes

1st Place = 5 POB + 1 Upvote
2nd Place = 1 POB + 1 Upvote
3rd Place = 0.50 POB + 1 Upvote

I will also be giving out free Love, Beer + Pizza daily to any comments I really like.

Congratulations To Yesterdays Winners

1st Place - @funshee
2nd Place - @mineopoly
3rd Place - @houseofdavid

I use https://www.random.org/ to pick the winner with TRUE RANDOMNESS !!

RANDOM.ORG offers true random numbers to anyone on the Internet. The randomness comes from atmospheric noise, which for many purposes is better than the pseudo-random number algorithms typically used in computer programs

Thanks for reading. #rtotd

Peace, Graham.

I'm from Nigeria and we can be quite religious and that reflects on the names we get as children, it most times reflects what our parents want for us, want us or our lives to be. For instance my name is Ijeoma which means safe journey in igbo language - I'm guessing my parents wanted my sojourn on earth to be smooth , we have other names like chizoba meaning God should protect, Chigozie - God should bless ....we also have English names that also reflect similar things like blessing, peace, faith, Destiny, purity amongst other names. So I'll be saying yes in a way names do influence the person one turns out to be.

I had no idea the name Ijeoma meant safe journey, I have heard a lot of people bearing it and have always wondered what it meant.

Thank you for helping me out my fellow Nigerian friend...

Oops 😬, we're not friends yet

I think super man's name really influenced who he went on to become even though he wasn't so super when it came to falling sky high for louise lane .

I think is all about, what one believed in.
You know, a man they say is what he believed, if you believe your name can influence who you becomes in life you might attach most of the happening in your life to your name, and if you think other wise it might be other wise.

heh, would be cool to check for statistical (in)difference of lets say all "Johns" outcomes sampled in a big five model study with another data of lets say all "Juans" :D or perhaps paired tests based on the same cultural background.. seems like a really interesting topic for psycholinguistics field, even though name is a very static label/form of a language.. idk, just thinking out loud, imo its highly unprobable that these variables correlate on some general level of being a human being :D

I don't think it does if you don't care that much for your name. But I know people whose parents made some unfortunate name choices and they suffered from always having to explain their name or being bullied for it, I think then it can affect your life and influence who you become.

Example, I have a friend named Homer. He was born a year before the Simpsons came out, his parents had named his after the Greek philosopher (still a bit lame but ok). Then the Simpsons came out and he has to deal his whole life with Homer Simpson jokes: hey you want a donut? How do you like your work at the nuclear reactor etc. To the point where he is not so thrilled to meet new people because he knows what is coming

That's actually quite sad.. can't he change his name to Homie? or something completely different? I'm not really in favor of name changes but in situations like the one you described.. I fully understand someone would..

Hey, yeah he could but in the Netherlands that is quite a pricey thing to do, it would cost him several 1000s of euros to get it changed

Congratulations to all the winners and I want to say it is good to see us wining and I also notice thier is going to be an increased in number too , considering the level of comments have gotten to see so far her and I want to say that is a very good one mate.

Does a person’s name influence the person they become?

Definitely at times and let me say looking at the level.of things here in my country where will do believe in such things as traditions too,but I want to say I sincerely agreed with it thst at times it works that way and it has a big influence in the person life and personality

Congratulations to all the winners here and it is good to be back here too and I want to say let keep doing this mate.

It is very possible at times as I don have u faith or believe in that, but thier are some part of the world that do think it happens way,but to me and my opinion it is not so,, things are times are just concidence at times,so I don't really have that believe at all

A very good one and good time too ,it sounds so good to be here again this moment and I want to believe that am not late yet,it is late than never and to me it is going to be a very quick one right now as I will love to addy own opinion and sign off too.

But of all let me say we are all champions wether you are picked randomly for the token attached to the contest or not,but the fact that you are here , champion is what you are.

Name Name and name,, people with different beliefs and nroms all over the world, but let me say that character and personality does not need to do with all those things,it is only a name given to answer and not to dictate our life's,so to me I am not of the opinion that it plays a long role in whoe will are in life at all

Ahh a nature nurture question! (sort of)

To be honest I do think it has some influence but not very much.. I mean some names are easier to get picked on by bullies. Some names might not be liked by certain types of people. But ultimately I think the way you're brought up and the experiences you have and things you do define you much more and your name only place a small role in these.
