Brace yourselves, thinking is required

What's inside the human mind? If it were an open box, would you ever find the exact same content, regardless of the situation they're facing? Trying to figure out all the possibilities of what's really rushing through the mind of someone is a daunting challenge.

A contest inside the Word of the Week contest

This is my entry for POB's ninth Word of the Week contest held by @caluman, and you are hereby invited into deciphering the personality, character traits and the past and future of whoever is the protagonist in the following story. You don't need to write a book about him, but try being imaginative.

Every participation will be rewarded with my upvotes. Better answers will get better upvotes! Mine is worth at least 0.80 POB tokens, if that means anything to you. It does to me, so show me how well your brain works, and that's how I'll show I value your comment.

The Outrageous Bystander

Cars came to a halt. A whole street worth of dense traffic angrily responded to the abrupt crash at the crossroad. They wanted to move on with their businesses, unaware of the lives mercilessly being taken to the afterlife, their souls drifting away, sip by sip. It was nobody's fault. Those who had seen the accident happen had trouble believing the amount of bad luck involved in the situation. Of course, some people around it hadn't seen the full picture, so they quickly started to throw blame.

A reality shock overcame every eyewitness, spreading out as curiosity lured in from afar those who had been sane up to the moment they'd also set their eyes on the corpses. The most common reaction was being incredibly nauseated. Second from the top was screaming and running away. Elders would weep, somewhat less impressed than others, despite feeling an awe they hadn't felt in decades.

Comparable to a nightmarish character's ending from a Final Destination movie, the gruesome view lasted for what seemed to be hours. Close by, a man sat at a bar. His eyes didn't show discomfort, disgust or revolt. Nobody would be able to guess his own kin were the ones who died. His life as he knew it was over, but there was no shock, no feeling. When everything was over, he walked away. Like the unsettled drivers before being interrupted, he still had business to take care of.

Your participation will be very welcome. I hope you like my idea and have fun trying to figure out what the protagonist has in mind. There is no true answer, so go as wild or traditional as you want. I look forward to every entry!

I know it's old, but we could always do new posts and quote or link... It was designed for a place where posts never expire, but that site is gone...

I guess we all happen to resound to trauma in different ways. I think the man is as terrified as everyone else but cannot express that in the moment.

OR

He went numb. None to the pain and suffering. This is a way of disconnecting from the traumatic event

That man sitting at the bar, whose eyes showed no feeling, was dead inside.
He had just lost the only real link to society and no one could even imagine that he was involved in this event and in the worst way: he planned it.
The shortcomings and atrocities experienced during his childhood and adolescence formed him as a person incapable of having a selfless feeling for anyone. For him, everyone can be used and does not deserve love. He put up with his family until they were no longer useful to him.
Now, he will take a train, move out of state, create a new story of his life and do the unimaginable so that no one will really know who he is: an unscrupulous being.

To be continued...
🤣

His life isn't over. He's still breathing, but he has choices to make. Wallow, succumb, or live on to fulfill what he believes is their ideals. Fantastic post, thank you. I mean, I'm frustrated right now? Because I want to know what happens, but I'll just have to deal.

outraged and shocked he no longer knows the difference between reality or fantasy, these moments of extreme anguish and grief seem to be so incredible that they do not seem reality, just as if it were a bad dream from which he wants to wake up ... but to know that it is not A dream is the most terrifying thing you know that you face a harsh reality and you fall as in a state of neutrality, which will give way to resignation .... Small paragraph but great the literary and novelistic sense. Perfect my friend, congratulations.
