Are we at a point where our curation no longer matter. +Pobpunks update

avatar

image.png

On reading numerous recent posts I am beginning to realise that some people fail to understand the importance of curation rewards, yes it is good to give back a percentage of your upvote to posts that you feel are worthy of your time.

To honest original content, but there is so much regurgitated crap being posted that we need to take a step back and observe that which is worthy and that which is crap.

We have all worked extremely hard to earn and stake tokens, sometimes against the odds when it comes to those that simply expect our votes because they where those that portrayed influence on us at the beginning but never returned a single vote, read your content or even engaged with your articles, posts etc, yet these people continue to profit from your hard work, because you naively believe you should upvote and engage with them.

NOT THE CASE

It is time we focused on the tribes and tokens that have been there for us, the users and communities that responded, engaged, upvoted and supported your work when at times nobody else did...

CIRCLE JERK

Currently there is a culture of circle jerking on hive and you ain't in that club, how many times, can you honestly say you where upvoted, commented or engaged in what has been going on, I know I have never been, but I also know I can clearly see those that are, I tend to use my curation on the platforms people and front ends that add value to the content I personally create as each person can equally argue.

In saying that I think it is important that we each re-evaluate those we follow, those we engage with and those who's content we enjoy reading before we willy nilly offer up the curation rewards we have fought hard to earn.

BEST PRACTICE
Sometimes it is better to evaluate the content you upvote rather than wasting your curation rewards on those that are less deserving. as @onealfa has clearly pointed out in his My msg to token MILKERS which draws our attention to those that consistantly use tags to earn multiple rewards while offering no extra value. NO Engagement, No Communication.

Are we willing to continue to engage and curate those that don't offer you a second glance, I Know I am Not, have any of those upvoted, commented or engaged, replied to you, I bet many have not.

Engagement is a two way streak, It's time you concentrated your time on building the communities and friendships on the platforms you use, upvoting the content on #pob and #vyb if that is where you spend your time.

One thing I don't believe is @onealfa's belief that proof of brain is dead as you will notice from my recent staking as is evident in @aslehansen's recent Movers and shakers poll.

I am all in on the three top positions

  1. I am No.1 The Biggest mover
  2. I am No.1 The Biggest shaker
  3. And Only second behind the biggest staker which is @richardcrill

Yes I agree that my recent Pobpunks NFT collection release on the Pob NFT marketplace and the amazing support from @richardcrill @mineopoly @caluman @proofofbrainio , @trostparadox @scholaris.pob and @vikbuddy which resulted in phenominal sales has resulted in this growth, but this only opens up avenues and proves that #Pob is still a strong contender amongst hive tribes if you are willing to put in the time and effort

THIS WEEKS POBPUNKS EDITION POST
This weeks official Pobpunks and 2nd edition post will be slightly delayed because of family issues although numerous 2nd edition Pobpunks will continuously be released from now until that post is released and beyond, including some radical as yet unseen or unreleased #Pobpunks NFTs

Just some feedback on recent sales to keep you motivated.

!rc_transfer.png
!

BUT DON'T FORGET THE TOKENOMICS'
Each Pobpunks edition will rise in value by 10% those that are wise enough to buy early editions will see their value rise by at least 10% EACH WEEK

image.png

There are still a handful left at the current price of 30 POB, not many and as of 6pm GMT Tomorrow Saturday 15th January 2022 these prices will rise to 33 POB, so grab them while you can before the rush.

I do hope that we can see early Pobpunk familia taking up what is left, if not, I can only reiterate this significance.

I will however create an addition Pobpunks post, but as I said it may be delayed, so I am going to tag those that are Pobpunk familia to ensure that you guys are aware of the opportunites before we hit the stratousphere......

Thank you for this wake-up call. I hope we all can share a bit of our time back to this blockchain. But I guess some just can't do it :) Anyway, I need to grab at least one from the collection before the price rises lol! My internet sucks though, can't load the marketplace now :(

Some good thoughts to contemplate.
Yeah tag abuse is rampant here, always has been. I never post in generic tags like ocd, which have no meaning and no theme, just somewhere to post to make large payouts. I only tag my posts with basic tags that are truly relevant, like cannabis, garden, weather, food, photography, activism, etc. Anything else is just playing a game. But I'm the exception around here, most people spam whatever tags they can to generate more clicks. I'm more about the actual content.

Yeah That's true their is some serious tag abuse, I think we have all been guilty of it at some point especially in the early days, but others just constantly do it. I tend to use those tags that are relevant to my posts now and try to curate posts of those I engage with and who's content I enjoy reading in the communities I use daily, I think that helps to add value

Nah, I have never been guilty of tag abuse. I have been here almost 5 years, posting daily, and never used any tag except things seen/discussed in my post. Psychology, cannabis, garden, food, analysis, cryptocurrency, hive, and so on. I also tag canna-curate/weedcash, deepdives, and leofinance when I post from those platforms. Never any junk catch-call spam tags like ocd, which have NOTHING to do with ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) and are merely just popular all-purpose tags that people post in, hoping to catch a big upvote from their curators. That removes value from all of us who use this blockchain and I will not participate. I do not curate posts with those spam tags.

I don't mean we might have done it intentionally, but I personally have certainly had learning curves in the beginning when I used incorrect tags and it's good to have someone point this out in a non aggressive manner.

TBH I have never seen you ever use an inappropriate tag, but my point was as new users we sometimes use them incorrectly, which I guess isn't actually abuse, but there is some that knowingly abuse tags continuously.

When I did this incorrectly in the past, it was with the attempt of gaining more views rather than milking rewards, as the rewards are secondary for me anyway.

Yeah I do or rather did, use some general purpose tags, but more so to promote a community or initiative of a new token purpose, but as the POB, VYB and CineTV are the main front ends I produce content for I will be sticking to those tags moving forward, there are however some general catch tags that where created for this purpose, which isn't always a good thing as you have correctly stated any junk catch call spam tags, I like that definition.

But I am hopeful that all the recent discussions in communities will bring about a method of community consensus that will address these issues.

Some of the tag abuse is to harvest automatic votes on some tags.

If automatic votes went away, so would the tag abuse.

I mean to be fair vyb and pob are a bit like that too, they don't actually have a category. I guess for me those tags represent people who don't support downvoting so I do like to exclude my search to those people as I believe that makes the whole platform a nicer place to be for everyone.

but the main thing is we should be able to have discussions like this and share our opinions without fear of getting a downvote or being removed from upvote circles. There is nothing wrong with expressing an opinion on a platform thats different from someone else's.

Well-put article.
I’ve only been on hive recently ( less than 3 months).
I’m slowly moving away from junk socmed ( eg FB, Twitter, IG) because of the abundance of zero value content.
It’s discouraging when I begin to observe the same trend emerging on hive. But you point out good duty of care for both the user and consumers.

Good reminder for myself to only put valuable content if I too want to consume value able contents.

I think most will start gravitating from those sites you mentioned as the content shared has become beyond ridiculous, hopefully this is something we can avoid here, but only if we can work together to do so

#POB is just getting a new breath of life, super exciting. Big up for sharing your point of view!

Great example for the exclusionary tag update too:

image.png

We definitely want to see more of this content, raw and honest. Let's say that Neoxian falls into the general tribe criteria.

How would you feel about receiving an automated comment at the time of publishing which let you know about the potential for tag spam?

Obviously, I know it isn't to tag spam (because I know your position on it already for the most part), it looks like you are actively part of the tribe and not looking for a token handout. It's got me thinking about the number of tags used, the amount of general tribe tags used, and the order of the tags (chronologic).

Thinking out loud I guess, lol. Trying to point out some grey area examples that are important to address as they're going to be the authors/creators that we want to support and not piss off.

I think creators should be free to post in any community we feel like and if the community don't like it then they should give a clear warning about tag abuse and wait for a response from the writer. If not response then mute. I had it happen to me for posting non-finance stuff on a finance tag. Later I made amends with the community. Considering any offence such as tag spam it is good to examine the motive of the violator and any question should be freely directed towards the author. vyb and pob basically allow any type of publication but I wish I could find more content or at least sincere content.

I like what jaxsonmurph is doing here and would like to see more of this kind of community initiative. That reminds me... I should buy up some more of his NFTs.

After reading that Post about the exclusionary tag update, you make a valid point which I will also be addressing with my own tag usage going forward, to lead by example for others that want to see these changes work to improve the communities/tribes.

An automated comment would be a good way to remind creators of the potential of tag abuse and should make authors more aware when they are doing this, the odd time you would understand, but afterwards it would become clear if users are clearly abusing tags.

I could see this as something that could work, if that's something that was to be implemented to make the tribe stronger.

I do also understand the point of view that @mineopoly shared in the comments about creators being free to post in any community and if a community member has an issue they could comment as such and if not replied too, they could be muted which opens up a discussion on how something could be implemented by community consensus that would reduce unnecessary tag abuse.

In a way that wouldn't piss off those we want to support

You've both got the right idea, discuss and discover 😀
Like I've mentioned before in another comment, the decision to add exclusionary tags is not an irreversible move, so it's not something to get overly bent out of shape about. The automated comment to show the framework is going to be an important one.

Let me ask... how would you feel about a 5 tag limit on your post (on the vybrainium front-end? Also, keep in mind that POB, proofofbrain, and hive-150329 tags are going to be added to the VYB smart contract so that VYB is earned when these tags are used as well.

@mineopoly is getting tagged here as well because it's 8am Monday morning and as much as the drum and bass is getting me rolling, I'm still in half-asleep mode 😂

Grabbed a pobpunk and cryptobaby off of you and even bought a cryptobaby from @richardcrill ...haha what can I say, I liked it! What's coming next in the range buddy? This post reminds me, I need to transfer some POB to the NFT creator fund... now to find the post again...Great job by the way!!!

Sounds like you've been on a buying streak, ha ha after this weeks edition have been fully released I will be minting airdrops and NFTs for those that took part in the contests and giveaways which should see many different creations become available in the marketplace, more spice, more variety, also I am starting to notice many users now have Pobpunks avatars which is a good sign of how well the community have taken to these little wonders.

I will also be doing something special for the pobscholarship fund to help the next gen creators get the support needed and keep the NFT marketplace buzzin.

I will be dropping an update post on this Tomorrow and some images of new mints ready for adoption !LOLZ

Engagement is a two way thing, I get plenty on noise and read, but as a newbie in hive, it is rare that I get it back apart from read and noise folk! Great post and exploring POB now, loving the NFTs :)

Engaging is a great way to get to know the authors and curators in a community and can have a positive effect on the tokenomics, but also in so many others ways, glad I peaked your interest in POB and hope you find the same engagement here that you have elsewhere, it does come, it takes a little longer, but the best way I have found is commenting on posts, getting to know those authors who's work you enjoy reading, Stake and curate as often as possible, Thank for dropping in to say hello, happy you like the NFTs

One thing I don't believe is @onealfa's belief that proof of brain is dead ...

Wait wait... I did not said "dead".
I said it is "dying". Which is NOT the same.
Why I believe so - I will publish a detailed argumentation post "soon", some time after February 1, 2021

That's true dying is not dead, but I can see this turning around if enough users continue to post and comment from the front end, It is in every stakeholders interest to do so if they would like to see the community get back to the way it was a few months back, with good content, engagement and curation, I look forward to reading that post when you drop it

to be honest I have never ever done this, even people I really like on the platform or know personally, I go and check their page sometimes and give them a vote but I genuinely always curate completely unbiasedly and if I like the post from the communities I am in. There is so much circle jerking and only voting people if you are in some kind of 'club' or don't say anything apart from what's in alignment with their opinion on everything. I have never really liked cliques of any kind, I don't even want to form my own or be part of one. I do mute all the downvoters but other than that I really vote completely on if I think their post is something I personally got enjoyment from in some way, I don't even look at who it was made by half the time.

That's the best way to simply let the content speak for itself, but sometimes it can be difficult to find in amongst all the other stuff, I do have some creators that I know constantly create really good work that I enjoy reading and sometimes I spend hours trying to find posts from creators that I have never read before as these tend be overlooked sometimes.

If I was to be downvoted for a valid reason, I am OK with that, but if it was malicious I would mute that account also, I honestly don't feel anyone should tell another person how they should vote, if they earned and staked it then that is their right to vote for whomever they choose, I just think it can be unfair for some users that do put in a lot of work and don't get much engagement.

Don't get me wrong there is plenty of nonsense posts that don't get engagement either, that why it's important to write interesting and sometimes thought provoking content, I try to write passionately about what I enjoy, but what I like others may not and visa versa.

Thanks for dropping in with your point of view on this, it's important that we can all write in an honest and frank manner, discussing these issues and look at them in a collective way to improve the communities for all users.

Its a social credit and people compare this social token to a real good use case of cryptography like bitcoin is the only issue I have, is how delusional people are who claim hive is secure LOL the network is so volatile there isn't really words to describe it anymore.

The DHF funded documentary author muted me for bringing up this topic and said it wasn't a big part of hive or worth covering, when the orcas are literally raping the rewards pool harder than @haejin ever did lol

The same orcas running a bunch of PR for the witnesses who now have a very obvious bias for certain bloggers who they would prefer in their 2 class blockchain.

If you don't follow logic zombie, check this post out, he updates it all the time with new info about this circle jerk.

Unfortunately that's true, I have followed logical the walking dead guy for a while Lol and he up earths some serious abuse, sadly this kind of thing demises the good work being done by many and discourages new users from putting in any real effort.

Account holders like afla speaking out are bound to send some shockwaves, because he is a large stakeholder and not easily silenced. But in the end there must be a better way for all.

A community consensus approach, this is why I love the verify your brain community, authors are able to write freely without repercussions and discuss issues of importance, Proof of brain is similar although certain users have still received downvotes there, not as much as some other front ends but VYB cancels that out.

Thanks for dropping in, its important that we can discuss these issues and hear as many views as possible
