TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR MIND
If you happen to stay around me, one of the things you will notice is my drive for success. I pride myself as a workaholic. It feels good in the short time exerting pressure on myself to perform.
My desire and drive stem from both a place of strength and insecurity. There is the pressure to be better which I totally enjoy and also, there is the pressure of not being good enough or doing enough. The latter drives me straight to the ground.
Two days ago, I was in a friend's car. It is a $32k automobile and that's a lot of money. I came down from his vehicle and suddenly I began to have a stream of negative thoughts. I felt I was not doing well enough because I did not have a car.
But wait!
'Do you need a car?' This was the first question I asked my inner critic and the answer was no. Then I asked myself, "so why are you sad for not having one?" And all of sudden my inner critic looked stupid. I had won the battle of my mind that evening.
WHERE DO THOUGHTS COME FROM?
There is no direct and perfect answer to this question. The best I can come up with is that we feed off energy/information from our environment which is processed in thoughts. In other words, your ability to process what you see, hear and feel is through your thoughts.
Given the explanation above, one can deduce that thoughts, although personal, are from an external source. This is why Stephen King opines that creative writing can't be taught, rather one needs to be in tune with the external to have access to creative materials.
MIND-CONTROL
This has a negative connotation but in this context, it means having the ability to filter random thoughts and identify what you read. This for me entails asking yourself valid questions every day.
As I have noticed most of us are stuck chasing other people's dreams unconsciously. We are driven by likes and trends. There is the constant pressure to be what you don't want to be.
Now, I am not implying that you live in your bubble. What I am saying in essence is that we need to make that conscious effort to filter through our thoughts and make sure we bring to fruition those things that would add value to our lives and that of the people around us.
This is my message for the day: take control of your mind. Fight depression and anxiety with simple and objective questions. Most times the pressure to perform is inconsequential to our growth and overall happiness.

It’s good when we are aware that not all of our thoughts 💭 would add value to us or the people around us. Kudos to you.
Certainly. This is why i am big on introspecting. When you spend more time with yourself you tend to understand yourself better.
Agreed. Introspection is a good thing to do from time to time. I find that we also learn about ourselves from our interaction with others.
I agree I just sometimes like to have my time thinking about what have I become and where I can improve for me and my family
Awesome article brother... Truly, most people are actually pursuing the dreams of others unknowing or more moved by the pressure of the society. Taking for Instance in Nigeria where everyone fancies the use of Iphone, it is normal for someone who doesn't need a iphone device to have the pressure of getting one to be able to feel among. Such person may end up buying an expensive Iphone in detriment of his real needs.
True that bro. The pressures of society they say. It is important to stay true to yourself always. Thanks for stopping by
My pleasure.... you are free to come by my side also... 🙂
Oh my! This post is superb, I love the voice you used in saying this to your audience. Oh, I just remembered it's a write up. I felt like you were saying all of this.
Our mind has a lot of connection to our environment and how we see things. We can only choose to control our minds and avoid what could cause depression for us.
A really educative post you have shared with us and I am glad I came across it, thanks.
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for reading.
man, once I start to work I set my goal and if I achieve it ahead of time I set another one and is good to work hard and see your progress
We should always ask ourselves this particular question. It's good to want a thing but it shouldn't be because someone else has it, it should be because we want/need it.
The goal is to control our mind and not let it control us.
Thanks for sharing

It is good to know that you have the two-phase of life as both strength and weakness. Since it balances up, you will have no problem unless you push one side too hard. And I don't need to tell you what happens when you do, because I know you already do.
you won the battle of the mind? I must commend you on this one. It is not easy to win over your mind especially when it wants to start getting envious of other people.
And I agree, our minds controls all of our actions. We need to learn to filter through it. This was there will be reduction in feeling depressded or anxious about life.
Do I find this post useful? yes I did, so I will go ahead and do the needful...reblog
Well done! I personally like to meditate. On a good day it gives me the tools to let negative thoughts just pass through me. I don't argue. I don't listen. I just let them pass like words on an advertising banner.
Of course there will always be bad days, where you have to fight those thoughts head on.
sorry for the late reply.
I have not tried meditate. it is very difficult to still my mind. i should try it one of these days.
Oh I have had a couple of these this week trust me...but we move on and strong regardless.
You know I actually forgot that I could be in total control of my mind. This post just hit me like a reminder that I'm in total control of my mind. Thanks a lot this is really mind blowing.
