Another one of them, journeys

I just recalled my trip to one of the eastern states in Nigeria, Enugu. I went there for a church youth camp. It was supposed to be a three-day program.

I anticipated the departure day so much that the day I was to leave, I stayed up all night imagining what it would be like. Maybe an hour journey with roses in the road and fresh air and all the good things that could come with a road trip. Time of departure was scheduled for 8am and I was at the venue thirty minutes before 8am.

As usual, with African timing and delay from other humans we started our journey by 11am. By that 11am, I already began to feel hungry. "I would have just stayed in my house and eaten breakfast if I knew all these would happen, but no, wongi was too excited and she ditched her breakfast, hehehe, beginning of misery"

Finally, we made moves. Like other road trips, I thought this one would be approximately two hours. Good thing is that I sat with my friends and so we got talking. We spoke till we were tired. We slept, woke up, kept talking and yet we didn't reach Enugu, omor!

My tummy started grumbling. Good thing my friends brought food and so we all ate. I looked at my wrist watch, 2pm!. Why! My ass was beginning to hurt. At some point, it seemed like the driver had lost track of the route, he seemed confused and I was just 'heheheing' inside my head. I wasn't ready to get missing.

We finally arrived after about five hours that felt like forever. Gbamm!! Enugu, here I am. I wore blue jeans, a striped white and lemon sweatshirt and a white soled lemon canvas to match, I was ready to cause commotion.

We lodge at the hotel and we're told to come out after freshening up for dinner. My friends and I didn't really want to freshen up and so we took a stroll around the environment. Ghen ghen! as I was walking, I didn't observe what was going on around me.

We finally got to where the food was being served and I was offered one of their local soups. The soup looked great! But the name of the soup scared me, I didn't want to take any chances. I searched for something else I could eat and that is when I came across what they called 'mishai'. Mishai is basically a pimped kind of bread and fried egg. I ate mishai from the first day I arrived at Enugu till the last day.

Rewinding…. remember I said I didn't notice what was happening in my environment? Yes, I didn't. It turns out that It had rained earlier and as such, the whole place was kinda wet. I expected the normal brownish mud I knew but ko, I was served with a fine piece or pieces of red mud. The whole sole of my canvas turned red. I was now wearing red and lemon from red and white. I took it in good faith. I wanted causing commotion but it seems like commotion caused me.

Enugu was generally a lovely place. I fell in love with its environment. Its hills, slopes, greens, plains and all. I didn't really have time to explore to my heart's content but the little I saw was awesome. Would really love to visit it again some other time but definitely, I won't be going with any white soled shoes….

Thanks for reading..

With love, wongi😊

Hahaha... Commotion really dealt with you. This is it. A typical road trip from one part of Nigeria to another part of nigeria.

No kidding, everytime I get myself involved with people that do not keep to time, it pisses me off like crazy. Haha. Funny enough, I always see myself in such situation, but they know best not to expect an Ave from me.

I wonder how you survived on Mishai throughout your stay there. I get that you heard of weird foods, but Okpa is a popular one. You could have given it a shot.

BTW, from which part of nigeria did you start your journey?

I saw the okpa and I was scared. Why would a moi moi look that way!? I thought, but when I got back home, I got a taste of it and I liked it..

The journey started from Akwa ibom state 🙂

Yeah that sucks about your shoes, though mother nature didn't take care about the color of your shoes. Sounds like a nice journey. Yet after five hours I think I'd be hungry too lol.

I wasn't just hungry, I was famished.

Mother nature had to teach me a lesson by helping me with the shoes, haha, it wasn't so a really big deal.
