A ride along the river

avatar

Not much in the way of content from myself this week, so a gentle return to action with a selfie.....

IMG_2454.JPG

And a few photos of my ride along the River Trent on my new bike.

I've been undecided about buying yet another mountain bike, but yesterday I decided to walk to the nearest bike shop and take whatever was there, within my budget.

Apparently everyone wants a bike at present and the shelves were pretty bare. I went with one outside my budget but when they scanned the code the bike was 300 pounds cheaper than the display price. The plan was to pay on interest free finance but when that was rejected I decided to just buy it outright, and after today it already feels worth the investment.

IMG_2455.JPG

IMG_2456.JPG

I've never really ventured too far along the river track, but Google tells me I can go most of the way to the town where my daughter lives, and so I'll likely be taking this route very soon.

Holme Pierrepont Country Park is a just a few kilometres from Nottingham city, and is the home of The National Water Sports Centre.

IMG_2466.JPG

There was the odd sail boat and canoeist dotted along the river and at Holme Pierrepont, but nothing compared to how it would be like if we weren't living with Covid-19.

It's now been 9 weeks since I was put on Furlough and after being apprehensive at first, I'm now pretty OK with a 20% wage cut for 0 hours work, especially with the weather being as it is - amazing for this time of year.

Plenty of social distancing from the humans, not so much from the birds.....

IMG_2458.JPG

You might have to zoom into see the baby ones in the photos above, very cute.

This looked like a good spot to stop and have a drink - my own, not the pond water.

IMG_2464.JPG

It's been 22-26 degrees here for almost a week now, and I have no excuse not to stick the sun-cream on and make the most of it.

IMG_2467.JPG

Have a lovely weekend, I hope the sun is shining where you are too.

Cheers

Asher

Hey, @abh12345.

I did notice you weren't posting. :)

Hope all is as well as it can be, given the current circumstances there. We're supposed to be coming out of lockdown here, currently in phase one, and so far, it's not a whole lot different than total lockdown, other than I get to work between 20-25 hours a week. Not sure how that's going to help the finances, but hey, progress, right?

Sounds like you got a good deal on the bike, especially if you feel you did. I haven't ridden a bike in ages, but I do think about it as the weather starts to change. We've been enjoying some warmer, sunnier weather here for most of the week, too. Today it's supposed to be cooler with rain, which is okay after three days of highs in the 80s.

I don't know if the humans in our state are doing that great at social distancing right now. We've got rioting and looting going on because of the George Floyd death—not where we live, but in Oregon's largest city, Portland, and perhaps some smaller cities, too. We live in a mostly rural area, so it's not likely things will get too rough.

Hi Glen

Yes a quiet week for my on the post front, and I've not been all that engaged either. The weather has been too good to miss, and I've not really had that much to add I guess.

20-25 hours a week work sounds steady, and should help a little?

I feel like I got a deal for the bike, and having checked online I see it listed as 800 pounds - so perhaps I have got a deal :)

Rioting? Well that's not good at all, I didn't hear about George Floyd's death, and will have a read about this now.

Enjoy your weekend.

Foie gras (English: /ˌfwɑːˈɡrɑː/ ( listen), French: [fwa ɡʁɑ]; French for '"fat liver"') is a specialty food product made of the liver of a duck or goose. By French law, foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck or goose fattened by gavage.

300 pounds less for a bike? Do you mean motorcycle?
I've been mauling over the thought of buying a second hand bike for $35 here since lol.

I think the cheapest adult mountain bike will cost around 100 pounds, and that will be no frills, crap brakes, etc.

They do last if you look after them though, or don't get them stolen like me :/

Wow. Around here, I could get a very good second hand bike for half that price. Actually, 50 pounds is on the steep side because I checked one shop for a basic mountain bike and the dude said 20,000 naira, which is roughly 40 pounds.

Oh my. What a massive difference. Looks so peaceful where you are.

Seems to make a nonsense of having one approach for all.

The beaches here, as you know, are packed with many, many people travelling here for the day.

I read an article yesterday that said the R number is now above 1 again in Brighton and Hove after being at 0.45 a couple of weeks ago. That's doesn't surpise me at all. &#128546

Put me right off going doing there today or going out for a cycle. The cycle paths are mental!

Glad to hear you got yourself a bike and how somewhere to lovely to go on it.

The one rule per country is a bit silly, but Brits are a bit dumb and can't really follow basic instructions - telling the south to stay at home whilst the midlands can go out is unlikely to go down well!?

R number above 1, damn :( I really want the airports to get going and for them to get rid of this quarantine on return - it seems that's unlikely if we are heading for another spike :(

Thanks Gillian, I'll be out on my new bike as often as possible!

Banning people from using the beach would help alot although there would be a public outcry no doubt. But it would stop the hoards from outside the area travelling here. The weather makes them such a people magnet, especially with bars selling takeaway beer and the lure of fish and chip suppers.

Last weekend there were groups of 20+ barbecuing, already way beyond the 6 that is recommended from tomorrow.

Maybe a few weeks of rain is what's needed. That should keep more people indoors. 😂

Some rain will certainly help, although I'm not going to rain-dance with you :P

I'm glad you've come to terms with that, must have been a real inner struggle.

The good thing about Hive is that yer earning from yer curation anyway! And it's good to have time away from time to time!

You could have shown us the new bike!

I think this is one of the best communities on Hive. It certainly has the best origins story~!

I just felt a bit worthless when first put on the scheme, but when else in my lifetime will I be getting a few k a month for absolutely nothing?!

6/7$ a day from consumer rewards, can't complain about that at all.

I registered @thefaceoracle and Four Degrees (https://peakd.com/c/hive-199183/created) a while back with a plan to follow everyone who'd stuck a selfie up at some point. Not got round to doing much as yet, and I guess the selfie community will do :)

So, the last time you posted a bike pic, the bike got stolen. I never had you down as a superstitious sort of fella ;-)

We are in final states of easing here. The massage shops are open again on Monday....but only the traditional health , massage shops. ( I kid you not, that was a quote from the government!)

Looking at the situation back home, the village idiots are going to put everyone back into lockdown although I cannot understand why there is such reticence by the government at not pushing the masks and gel and shutting borders.

Anyway, post a bike pic please. I promise I won't steal it. Halfof me wishes I was back there when the weather is like that riding down some old disused railway routes. So much has changed in 10 years with all the cycle routes around now.

Take care of yourself, and please quit with the selfies. Its taken many years in therapy free myself from thoughts of homicidal jealousy!

0

0.000
avatar

haha :) Not the massage shops you like to visit then?!

Yeah, if I post a photo of the bike, some dickwod will steal it I'm sure. People have asked though, so a photo will reluctantly appear soon I reckon.

Gillian was saying how packed the beaches are, the village idiots making their way to the coast to help us attain another spike :/ And yeah, no requirement to wear a mask, although it is 'recommended' on public transport.

Alright, more bike photos and less selfies - that's my first in a while and at least I had a shirt on!

Hello dear friend @ abh12345

Good that you walked to the store and bought a new bicycle. This allowed you to go through these beautiful places full of nature.
I really like the peace that the birds have to live, they even feel so safe that they are taking the family.
A 20% cut in wages without working does not sound so bad, however, for people who have their assets committed, it is a great reduction.
I really appreciate that you gave us these beautiful postcards.

That you enjoy your days off, charge the energy as much as you can.

I wish you a wonderful weekend

Hi @jlufer, thanks for the message :)

Yes I'm really happy with the purchase - I was thinking this today whilst cycling in the sun.

20% a big chunk, but i have been careful with expenditure and think that a STEEM powerdown will cover this more extravagant purchase :)

Have a lovely weekend too!

We got to 20c yesterday, at 22 it is very hot feeling for us, but the temps are on a general war trend and stabilizing at the 12-18 Celsius range. We also had a lot of sun yesterday, and it was already warm when I crawled out of bed this morning.

We are going rapidly from spring to summer now, it was nice last night listening to all the thunder booming around us at times, slightly worrying because of lightening strike fires, but so far I think we are safe since the grounds are still pretty wet.

Have a pleasant weekend enjoying the new bike.

It looks like a rip-snorter of a day there bro...Although I'm concerned about one thing...Your work from home beard...It's, well, displeasingly lacking in length, shag and general unkemptness. It's time you upped your game brother.

Other than that, I approve of everything else in this post including the fact you let that insect use your ear for a nest.

The only thing you're missing in that pic is a suit of armour and a broadsword...

Your post brought back fond memories of the 24 hours I spent in Birmingham in 2017.

England is a wonderful country with tons of history and the British accent is my favorite (notice, no "u" :) in all the world.

I only wish I'd planned a longer layover on my way to Germany. The Magna Carta, The Battle of Hastings, The British Empire etc., you guys have done so much, we Yanks need to up our game if we're going to be remembered a thousand years from now. :)

I'm just glad I got to finally set foot in your amazing country. You're doing so many things right over there, keep going! :)
