A couple of days ago I went shopping with my husband for Christmas dinner (before the last minute shopping craze starts)...we got to the supermarket and he said the magic phrase: I'll buy you a coffee love.

I swear my heart skips a beat when I hear him say this to me. It's like when he proposed to me 🤭.

I was surprised that he invited me a coffee if we were in the supermarket, then I realized that now they sell coffee instead. They set up a corner and I found it very nice, the Christmas atmosphere was all over the place.

InShot_20231208_205227217~2.jpg

We ordered a cappuccino. The barista took a while and I was getting desperate, I wanted to go home soon, but my husband invited me to sit down and we took some pictures together, talked a bit about our things.

IMG_20231206_152932~2.jpg

I really liked the taste of the coffee. It was perfect, just right. What I didn't like was that due to the delay of the barista (a new guy who asked us to be patient) I had to order the coffee to go in order to make progress in our busy schedule.

I hope to come back with much more time and enjoy this delicious coffee. Now I feel calm because in the supermarket we have a coffee shop 😊👍🏼☕

There's always time for a little coffee and love. That coffee looks creamy and tempting; I'll bet it was good.

Across Venezuela, supermarkets have begun to offer coffee and food to eat in or take away. I think it has to do with the fact that it's no longer so easy to get from one place to another because of the cost of fares and gas. So it seems we costumers are willing to sit in a corner of the supermarket and restore strength with a coffee or something to eat.

Your husband is sweet, btw ❤️

I agree with you. Maybe it's the cost of fares and gas that changed the dynamic of things in you community.

But it's great to know people still find time to have a cup coffee at the corner of supermarkets...

Gas is the fuel, my friend. We'll bound until we can use something cleaner and cheaper to get us to places. It's so good when you can just walk, but we have a scorching sun here 🌞

A few days ago I went with my husband to do some business near the place where he works. After walking for a while we decided to sit down for a coffee, as we are both coffee lovers (he a bit more than me) and we discovered this small establishment where they sell groceries and toiletries, and they also have a small space with some tables where they serve coffee, and with quite cheap prices.

I ordered my coffee with cinnamon, it had been a long time since I had enjoyed cinnamon in coffee and I love that mix of flavours! I enjoyed it very much. I would definitely visit this place again.

Coffee and cinnamon is a most delightful combination, as it's not only the flavor but the delicious blend of aromas that is so enchanting ❤️

Personally, I like to add a little cane honey to this coffee, although I don't take sugar or sweetener with my black coffee.

Hi, coffee lovers!

There are not many new brands to see in my city. You can almost always find the brand you're looking for because it's probably the same one you've used for a significant part of your life. In my case, I have gone back to buying Anzoategui coffee, a brand that has been around since my late mother was a baby. Café Anzoategui has been in the market for almost 80 years.

image.png

When I was little, like forty years ago, coffee beans were only for coffee shops; we bought it ground. I bought a kilo of Anzoátegui coffee beans last month and just bought another kilo a couple of days ago because we liked it so much.

It's arabica espresso beans. It's an aromatic coffee, strong without being bitter. For a commercial coffee, this one is quite smooth on the palate with a slightly fruity aftertaste that surprised me.

image.png

I was very skeptical at first, as it had been maybe ten years since I last bought this brand. The reason? The quality of the coffee fell steadily and steadily to the point of almost absolute scarcity. We Venezuelans were forced to drink awful coffee for two years or so (2015 & 2016). You had to pay a little fortune for a decent bunch of beans--I had green tea most of the time by then. Long story short, after buying a package of coffee from this brand that tasted horrible, I never bought it again until a month ago.

So this is the "new" kind of coffee I've been buying at super lately.

It is quite interesting that coffee that is available in the supermarkets in Europe is a lot different than the coffee sold in South America for instance. Although there are global brands, they seem to be different across the continents. Here in Eastern Europe you will most likely find coffee like Tchibo or Lavazza at the supermarkets. Recently they started selling Starbucks and Costa beans too, although they are more famous in North America.

A good deal of our local coffee--and cocoa--here in Venezuela are of excellent quality. I'd have to tell you a long story to illustrate why we're not exporting anymore. Big industries in Europe used to buy coffee--and cocoa and tobacco...--from us. Anyway, nowadays, Brazil is the top producer, followed closely by Colombia, both in Latin America; you can find Brazilian and Colombian coffee in any store here, sometimes for a price, depending on the quality. We don't need to spend much as there are also good roasters in the peripheral towns; many of them produce and consume coffee everyday that you could take for a specialty coffee, only that these humble people don't know it. Now, Anzoategui vs Lavazza, for example, well._ I love Lavazza, and it's a lot better than commercial Anzoategui if you ask me--and most people, I'm sure--, but not better than Los Altos Café Gourmet--I'll bet--produced here in my state, but Lavazza is thrice more expensive than the latter. And yet I could not drink the 5-6 cups I have per day if I had to pay for neither Lavazza nor for Los Altos Café Gourmet, let alone specialty coffee. I should find I third job 🥺😪 to afford that. There are many hues in this coffee world, my friend.

That’s a lot of info, thanks for that! The coffee market is very colorful nowadays… and I have to tell you that if I have 5-6 cups a day, specialty coffee would hit me hard too! I usually spend about $1,5-$2,5 per day, when I have 2-3 coffees and my wife has one or two. Doubling that would mean that I will have to spend about $100-$150 every month on coffee!

You make me feel like a coffee junkie 😂
I guess it's a family thing. My late mother and my sisters a and I; we're coffee freaks. Well, my dear coffee friend, if I could have access to specialty coffee ona regular basis, I wouldn't mind reducing my daily intake to 3 cups ❤️

It seems Anzoategui coffee found a way to win your heart again. Sorry about the last experience you had with the taste and all.

I'm sure it has been painful for you all to spend extra dollar to buy a better coffee.

Either ways, Anzoategui is back and it's amazing to know the quality has been improved upon. Happy sipping.

Yes, it was a relief! And I'm certainly happy to have come a long way since 2016. An extra dollar is always appreciated, hehe. However, I must say I don't mind paying an extra dollar for good coffee. It's my weakness.

Oh, green tea is good, but coffee has my heart 😁

I don't use that kilo for the two of us at home only. I take coffee to my classes to treat my students, and also we get visits often. But I won't lie; I do have a lot of coffee during the day 😂

You know what's I'm talking about. It was a sad episode indeed for us coffeeholics. My late granny on my mother's side used La Laja; I think it was torrefacto coffee, which meant it was cheap--nowadays science has shown us that torrefacto coffee has more benefits to our health than traditional roasted coffee, but forty years ago it just meant coffee for the poor. I also remember the best coffee shop in town only used Fama de América beans. A lot of water under the bridge ever since, my coffee friend!

Fortunately, it seems our coffee brands are improving the quality of their products. Let's hope for a happy ending 😁☕

A brand with tradition. I will tell you that you encourage me to look for the brand from when my mother used to prepare breakfast for us and tell us how she used to drink her coffee as a child (typical of Venezuelans to drink coffee since they were little). I hope you enjoy the tradition, flavor and memories of your coffee.

Anzoátegui was one of my favorite coffees, but we know the story behind it. It was hard to get a coffee like that and we went through many horror stories: coffee combined with black beans, unpleasant flavors. It was a luxury to get a good coffee like the ones from before. Here in Colombia I am on holiday trying all the ones I can get and the experience has been good.

I am very glad that Anzoátegui coffee is back and that you are enjoying it, dear friend.

The big supermarkets surely have some premium and good quality beans. If you go for a relatively more expensive Lavazza, or Davidoff beans you will be okay, but if you want to get into the fairy world of wonderful coffee flavors you need to step up and go for something Specialty.

The last time I bought coffee from a supermarket was like 2 years ago and I did not like the flavor that much. Ever since it is only specialty coffee for me!

I feel pained by the fact that supermarkets in your region barely have coffee that suits your taste. Maybe you should get into this business and show them how it's done.. LOL.

It's fine that you do have your specialty coffee as replacement for all that disappoinment.

Oh, you could never go back to commercial coffee now that you've seen all those specialty fairies, hehe.

I've tried Lavazza but I don't think I've ever tried Davidoff. Lavazza is good coffee. I like it 😁 If I see Davidoff, I'll buy some. La Llave is decent; the beans are Cuban but processed and packaged in USA. What I don't like a out it is that they sell it ground; I buy the beans only, always.

I can see your Christmas tree. Coffee by the Christmas tree has an extra touch of fairy charm.

I bet that you will never find a Panama Geisha for $1200 per KG in a supermarket, but this is a different story. You can find a lot of different coffees in the supermarket, but some more specialized coffees that are relatively more expensive will expire on the shelves.

You are right, though that for the regular consumer there is everything that he will ever need.

An excellent Sunday coffee lovers.

Today we come with a new conversation in our beloved group.

Today I want to share with you this new coffee that I found in the supermarket where I usually go to buy household products. Immediately I was attracted by the nice design of the bag, a beautiful black color combined with an elegant pink, after the first impression I realized that it had the logo of Baileys, for those who do not know the brand is one of liquor and have a delicious whiskey cream, this attracted my attention powerfully and I decided to buy it, to my surprise it had no liquor, haha, but a smooth caramel chocolate flavor, low acidity, I still try to decipher the taste, but in theory let's say that I liked it. This was my discovery of a new coffee in my supermarket.😋

On this day I wish you a very relaxed day and with a good cup of steaming and delicious coffee.☕

Hello, good morning friends. Have a great start to the week.

I am not very given to change coffee brands, however, from time to time for various reasons I risk buying a different brand, either by "necessity", not finding the one I normally drink or to try a recommended brand and know firsthand if it is what I call a good coffee.

A few months ago on a trip I made I had the opportunity to try three different coffees, one of them is this one:

IMG_20230819_180314.jpg

I acquired it taking as criteria the fact of being a product of a renowned company and for the value of "sustainable ", which it boasts, in addition to its recyclable paper packaging.

The truth is that the experience was not entirely satisfactory, because as wine tasters would say, it "lacks body", perhaps that delicate bitter taste that it leaves in its path and that I like so much.

Wo! That really surprised me. I thought you'd say it's great.
I like that you take the chance to try different types of coffee, so you can label them and know which ones you like and which ones you don't.

Have a great day and a great week ☺️☕☕

Disappointing! Nestlé has so many good products, coffee products included, that one would expect this coffee was also good, and more because they say it's come from sustainable farms. If you find café La Llave, you should give it I try, or have you tried it already?

Hello, hello. I'm a little late to this conversation, but I've been out of touch over the weekend with a cold that hit me hard. However, a seasonal coffee I had yesterday at Starbucks put my soul back in my body. I just shared a post telling them about it.

To continue the conversation, in these days I bought a Juan Valdez freeze-dried, decaffeinated, instant coffee that I had pending to review here, but I tell you now that what I love about this coffee are its notes of sweet caramel and dark chocolate, a delight with body and aftertaste that lasts.
