The truth

“Hey, baby!” My best friend Pamela squealed in excitement.

“Hey young lady, thanks for coming late” I replied rolling my eyes.

“Late? I have been here for like an hour watching you act, by the way, you did really great with the kissing scene”, she said excitedly and winked at me.

“Trust you to store only that scene in your head”, I laughed.

“Whatever makes you sleep at night princess, here you go”, she handed me a cup of coffee.

“This is new, what’s the occasion, my darling friend?” I asked a bit surprised.

“I just thought to bring an extraordinary coffee to you on set, does that make me a weirdo?” She said rolling her eyes.

“No my friend, it makes you look like a good friend of which you are”. I said giving her a side hug.

“Anyways like I said earlier it is an extraordinary coffee and by extraordinary I mean a coffee that has been proven and tested by scientists to work effectively.

“What do you mean by extraordinary?” I said while looking at the cup of coffee in my hand.

“It’s a coffee that was specially produced by scientists and it allows one to remember forgotten childhood memories easily.

“What in God’s name are you blabbing about?” I asked her.

“I am saying that this coffee has the power to make you recall all your forgotten childhood memories and I remember you’ve always wanted to remember what your mum looks like”, Pamela said sadly.

“Are you sure?” I replied sadly

“Yes it has been proven and tested”, she said patting me on the back.

“Ok, I will try it”, giving her a sad smile.

“Okay baby, we can try it now since you are done with your shoot.” She smiled.

“There you go my love, savour the moment. she winked.

I took the first sip, and nothing happened, I took the second one and nothing still happened and I was forced to glare at Pamela.

“Calm down it’s going to work”, Pamela gave me a light pat on the back again and I took the last sip and it started working.

My visions became blurry, the objects from the sets began to slowly disappear, and the painted wall was replaced with a dark room. One minute I was sipping my coffee the next minute I was in a dark room and present in that room were three people a man, a woman, and a child.
The man's face wasn't familiar to me but the woman and child looked so much alike. I heard the woman say my name and I knew for a fact that she was my mother and standing there was a little girl who was clueless about what was happening in her environment.

"Are you going to still keep this child? A child who you know nothing about her father? the man said spitefully.

"I have come to love her and I can't do without her", my mother said sadly.

"Do whatever you want to do with that child but I cannot take care of you and that child and you can't go back to school with a child!" he yelled.

I saw the woman weep bitterly while pleading with the tall man standing in front of her.

"This is not a crying matter, take that girl to an orphanage home where she can be taken care of as you do not have the capabilities to take care of her at this point in your life.

"Please I want to keep her" I heard and saw my mum weep with so much agony. While I stood there watching everything, I couldn't help but weep too. This was my my mum begging to keep me but all these while I have always thought that she had abandoned me in an orphanage home because she did not want me in her life.

"I beg you with everything that you believe in, I want to keep her, she is not an orphan she has a mother, and I am her mother". My mum was in so much pain, I could see and feel it, she loved me, and she wanted to keep me. I wept profusely upon this revelation.

"Do whatever you want but I still stand by my decision", the tall man said as he left the room angrily.

I saw my mum pull me into a hug and wept profusely.

"I love you Becca, I love you but right now I do not know what to do”.
My little self stood there staring blankly, my little brain could not process everything that was going on around me, I just stood there hugging my mum.

"Becca! Becca! wake up! please come back." in my subconscious I could hear Pamela shouting my name and hitting my arm.

"Oh God! My friend, don't die", I heard her say and with tears in my eyes, I came back to reality.

"Thank you, Jesus!, what happened? why are you crying, Becca?" Pamela asked concern laced in her voice.

"Pamela, I saw my mum, Pamela she loves me. She was weeping because she was asked to send me to the orphanage home. Pamela, she doesn't hate me, she didn't abandon me at the orphanage home like I always thought." I said amidst tears

I gave Pamela a big hug and we cried together, not because we were sad that my mum finally left me at the orphanage home but because I found out the truth that she loves me and didn't abandon me.

"Thank you for the coffee my friend" I smiled and tightened the hug.

"'Anything for you baby!" Pamela replied.

I am sorry for Becca for carrying the feeling of abandonment with her all those years. It is a good thing the coffee brought her closure as to how her mom felt about her. Great read @ibbtammy

Wow, what a revelation. The fact that the coffee answered a major unanswered life question for her is so crazy.

Imagine if the coffee was in fact real and working. People will leave a better quality of life ... well it depends on what is revealed to them 😅

You have a unique way of telling stories that makes your work enjoyable. Well done dear!

What a bittersweet celebration after your performance... it's wonderful to know that your mom did indeed want to keep you, but seeing so clearly how someone in her life pushed her to go against her wishes... that is painful. I hope this revelation leads to a reunion, and our main character can find additional peace.

Thanks for the moving read 🤗

It's sad how this is actually the reality of many people. Kudos to the parents out there that "stay."

Where can I buy this coffee, though? I want to check something.

Very good story, IB. Well done. And great photo. found this on Dreemport.

What a beautiful story and how powerful the coffee is to help you bring back memories of the past. The scientists did a great job by making the coffee effective. I enjoyed the story as you were able to know the truth about why you went to the orphanage home. I popped in through #dreemport
