Beautiful Sunday Sublime in its own way

Today was a quiet Sunday, for a change I woke up late. I had nothing much to do as my boys were busy either at work or taking part in some college competition. After the heavy rain of Saturday night the morning was quite cold and I decided to stay in bed. Hubs brought me my coffee and told me that I could sleep in and he would order our breakfast as well. For someone who gets up early and races against time everyday this is luxury of the unimagined kind.

I decided to read a book instead. I have been meaning to read Ben Carson's, 'You have a brain' for sometime now but never really found the time to do so. I tried reading on my kindle, but the darn tablet had run out of charge. I used my phone instead to find an audio book with a soothing voice. The last few times I used an audio book wasn't a very pleasant experience for me. After a few searches I found a great voice to go with the subject of my book. The sky was over hung with clouds and it was threatening to rain all day. There is nothing more pleasurable than to stay at home and read on a rainy day!

I listened and found myself enjoying the book so much that I decided to get some work done as I listened. I started with cleaning up our bedroom. I moved from room to room which and I was done in no time at all. It was then it struck me that I hadn't really discovered the joy of an audio book fully until this moment.

It was time to cook and I decided on a simple lunch of macaroni with sausages, corn, carrots and cauliflower. It tasted amazing even though it took me only 20 minutes in the kitchen.

After lunch it was time to do the laundry and the ironing. All the while I was listen to Ben Carson's story. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed that book. It is one of the most inspiring and motivating books I have read in recent times. This book was a sublime experience for me.

Oh! I need to tell you this I tried reading the book, 'The subtle art of not giving a fck,' by Mark Manson. @kaerpediem had recommended it. LOL it was hilarious. Every sentence was punctuated by the work fck at least a couple of times and the hubs was getting worried about what I was listening to. He was fed up by the time I got to the second chapter of the audio book and he said that is enough fcks for a day.

That took me back to Ben Carson's, 'You have a brain'. I have read his book, 'Gifted hands' many years ago. That was when my older son was inspired to become a neurosurgeon. It's like 15years now and he will soon be graduating. The second chapter of 'You have a brain' got me so excited. I decided to send the link to my younger son, I specifically asked him to listen to the second chapter a couple of times.

This chapter is about the dumbest boy in grade five and the faith of the mother. It sounded like our story was enacted a few years ago. My younger son has been led to believe he is dumb. I keep telling him he is not going to be just a doctor but a surgeon with gifted hands. I just wanted him to have the same faith that I have. We have been discussing this in bits and pieces over the last year when people wrote him off saying he would never be a doctor.

His teachers were astounded that he breezed his way through med school admissions (which is pretty tough here). I keep telling him to believe in himself and this second chapter was exactly what I wanted him to listen to.

Today he was busy debating about surrogate pregnancy, the ethics and legal aspects in his college's debating team. He is so talented, he sings, he plays the guitar, he is involved in sports, he was the sports captain of his school and yet he will listen to all the negativity that others dish out to him. These mother-son motivational talks always leaves both of feeling good.

The rain in the afternoon water saved me some time, I didn't have to water the plants. Hence, I worked on one of my bonsai for a bit and cleaned up my garden work table.

I also worked on my dying terrariums for sometime. I have neglected them for a while now. So there was some cleaning up and rearranging to be done. The Hubs did all the vacuuming and most of the folding of clothes.

What a perfect day it was, not just a beautiful, relaxed Sunday, but a sublime Sunday as well. Hubs did all the helping around and finally we got around to cleaning up all the three floors on the same day. I don't think we have accomplished this ever in the last five years we've lived here. Thanks to the audio book work felt like leisure today.

I've got to get myself a couple of other books to read this week. I know that will keep our home spick and span until the boys come home. LOL

I hope your Sunday was sublime as well! Wish you a productive and happy week ahead.

Your Sunday could be classified as a peaceful one.
Listening to audio books could be soothing and very peaceful. It even helped you clean you house.
I should try listening to them again, because I stopped few years back.

I hope your son gets the motivation he needs. I don't believe anyone is dumb, except they accept it by themselves.

It was not just peaceful, but sublime. I have one more hour to go one my book. I just hope that I can finish it today and go to another book.
I believe the joy of listening to an audio book also depends on the voice and the intonation of the reader.
Yes, I am working on my son, he is no fool. He is so multitalented and he knows it.
He has to start believing in himself.
Thanks for stopping by @malopie

You're right about the voice and intonation of the reader because that was one of the reasons I gave up on audio books..

He's no fool and be should know that.

Have a nice day

The subtle art of not giving a fck,' by Mark Manson.

I have read this .... Hubby is funny for saying that's enough f*cK for the day 😂😂😂😂

I have read almost all of Ben Carson's books

I stared reading early as a child.... There are lots of books I have read .. phew

How do you use audiobooks? I still haven't gotten round to doing this yet

I guess I need to .... Because of the limited number of hours in a day

I usually feel I won't get the points if I am listening than I would if I was reading word for word

I could listen to The subtle art of not giving a fck, only because the boys were not at home, they would have been scandalized as hubs was LOL
I can't use my ear phones for long as I get a terrible headache so I leave my phone on loud and close by as a I work.
I am a good listener so its kinda easy for me to do so while doing work that requires no serious thought. Cleaning and laundry are some of those. I listen while I am gardening too, but my neighbours would be annoyed if I put it loud so that is the only time I use the head phones.
This way I can read a lot more books. That's right time is so limited and we need to make the best of it.
I hope I answered your question right.

I understand

It's cool that you are a good listener, I know that I can be distracted if I am listening while working, I only do it with music.

Of course your neighbors will be annoyed and even disturbed so it best to use headphones at this point

This way I can read a lot more books. That's right time is so limited and we need to make the best of it.

Yes, time..... We only have such a short one allocated to everyone....

I hope I answered your question right.

Not really..... Do you download audiobooks as an app or?
