Beneficial Periodical Photography Issues

avatar
(Edited)

Hello, Hive lovers!

Here's the big news - recently we've decided that instead of casting several small upvotes we could support better few selected photographs of artists on Hive.

So we will be posting periodically, hopefully on a daily basis, a selection of three (3) photographs and put their creators as 25% beneficiaries (each one of them). We believe this will add more value to their work and ours too. Of course, we depend on all your good thoughts, energy and votes, supporting quality photos only, of course!

The selection could consist of photos from the last few days that impressed us or could be based on specific themes, etc. Sometimes we will pick photos from posts that are not active anymore (past 7 days) as we see how some quality stuff doesn't get all the good it deserves due to several reasons.

We hope that once this new initiative grows, we will also be able to give additional prizes as tokens, start to invite guest curators, etc. Sky is the limit!

If you know good photographers, new or old users of Hive - it's all OK, you could comment with their accounts to this post. Of course, apply yourself too if you are a photography lover and you believe you post quality stuff and not only for the rewards ;)

Huge thanks to our delegators and supporters!

We wish you all a prosperous, calm and creative day!

This sounds like a great program; agree we need to work more on showcasing quality to attract more photographers to the platform.

Thank you for your supportive words. Definitely we need more quality on the platform.
What would you think would be a good slogan for this?
Great photographers are sometimes discouraged to continue to contribute on the platform as they see how sometimes posts with less quality get financially supported with huge upvotes while their photos, made with a lot of efforts, persistence and big investments remain undervalued. Been there, seen that. 📷👍

I am trying to do my part by only upvoting quality photographs, but I am also very new on this platform so I dont have much voting power. Somehow I am amazed how many bad photos get upvoted the shit out of them while really great shots seem invisible for the voters...

Our voting power also isn't great, that's why we try to use some external help by delegating, but this doesn't work as expected so far.
We agree that in many occasions it is not the quality being rewarded here. One of our goals is to create an "island" of quality visuals, in a way. Hive is generally considered as a blogging platform and some of the big curators care more about the length of the posts, asking for word count, multiple photographs, etc. while we know that sometimes one "click" could cost us days, even weeks and huge investment in gear and props. Not to mention sometimes upvotes come from investments and have nothing to do with what has been posted. That has no positive or negative sentiment, it is just the nature of Hive at the moment.

Thank you for supporting our cause, @solymi!

exactly what i wrote in - investments is the "feature" of this platform that will finally kill it and it will become another steemit. I would like to delegate some HP to your idea so. let me know how I can do this, please.

Hopefully what we all do and try to achieve will brighten our future here!
Thank you for your offer to delegate, perhaps for the moment it is better if you give slightly bigger upvotes to the selections you like, instead of delegating (and loosing your Power a bit) as we'll have to self-vote then, which isn't our goal. Hopefully we find soon a bigger curation service on Hive that is willing to support us. If not, we'll think more then and figure it out with your help!

There is always the option to ask (again) for delegations and give more and proper upvotes, but that is too trivial and probably those that are here on Hive mainly for the profit won't invest much as there isn't going to be any delegation curation profits for them. We curated this way for way too long to know it won't work very well, unfortunately.

I see. Hope that this bigger curation service will find your initiative interesting and will help you with the idea.
Good luck and thank you

Agree with every word @solymi - "Somehow I am amazed how many bad photos get upvoted the shit out of them while really great shots seem invisible for the voters..."
One of the bigger problems of this platform that some people post very poorly in terms of quality and interest content, but this option to pay for the high votes to the bots makes them popular and more visible... We can do nothing about it, but the projects and ideas like @monochromes everyday challenge and now the @photocuration idea can bring some light to the real Original photography.

A good initiative. And quite some work searching for and picking out the photos to showcase :)

Good luck!

Interesting thought - I particularly like the 'older than 7 days' concept - I find the lack of a long tail on HIVE to be a little annoying - it make it feel a bit random - basically if it doesn't hit in the first 12 hours or so then it is just ignored.

Yep agree that's an issue. I know PeakD had introduced tipping to try and overcome that; but it's not used in the same way.

Yes, agreed! Sometimes it takes 2-3 days for the big curator initiatives and their trails to review but that's an exception, actually.
We will try, at least, and hope for the best! 😊📷

Great initiative!

Also, I suggest adding other photos you like to the honorable mention section (and of course reblog all of them); for many people, attention is more important than awards (although I may be wrong). 😊

By the way, I removed my micro-delegation, as in the current situation it does not make sense.
However, I will support each of your posts with my full upvote.

Thank you!
Your idea is excellent, we'll think it over as this will probably double the time we have to spend searching and selecting. Perhaps you're 100% right, we're all attention seekers in some extent. 😊
Thank you for your valuable support, your delegation was important to us and now you'll use it better as we have enough HP to post once a day and reply to, let's say, few dozens of comments and suggestion. 👍😊
We expect a lot of feedback from the photography community!

Hi! I love the idea of photo curation! And I would like to suggest following users: @victorbz , @kodeblaccc, @jlphotographyart, and if you look at my work you can decide if you want to consider me as well. Thanks for doing this! Also thank you for raising the bar for quality photography!

Thanks so much for your input, @solymi!
We have been already following those three great artists you've suggested.
We've just started following you though, we see quite interesting stuff on your blog! 😊👍📷

Thank you so much! It is great how vibrant this community (all of hive) is. It reminds me of the days when facebook was a new thing and you where just eager to see what was going on there, I must say being in the hive is a much greater thing than facebook and all social media.

You're very welcome! We're looking forward to see more of your interesting ideas visualized!
Yes, Hive is awesome in satisfying our needs to share and show off while being rewarded, more or less, at the same time, contrary to the centralized social networks where we literary work for their shareholders.
