Great Hive learners in the house, I bring you greetings from my own end. I wish that we will all enjoy this new week in a special way. Welcome back to my this day.

It is not possible for anyone to say that he / she has never quit or let go one thing or the other that was very special.

Talking of something that I have let go in this life, there are so many of them, but I want to share one particular one that I let go that affected me so much to the extent of shading tears. Since two years back we have been talking about building a house of our own in the family, because we have long stayed in a rented apartment and we have out grown that. After praying for years, we finally got a land that we can call our own. But another thing is the money to start the building project. We tried all that we could to save money for the project and it was as if the more we try to save, the more problems emerged- the children's school fees and feeding, accomodations for students and every other expenditures. The two many things to do with money.

When we get to this year precisely the month of March, I decided to go for a cheaper block that will enable us build the house. But I did not also count the cost of using a cheaper block for building a house. I'm talking about using mold blocks for building. Some of the things I that I did not put into consideration was the issue of finishing the house before the raining season which was to begin around May or June.

I went on and made plans on how to start molding the blocks by asking someone to help me bring the type of sand that will be needed for the work. When they started molding I provided the money for the work. But the problem started when we finished molding the blocks. We started searching for the type of car that will convey the blocks to the building site. This alone took us up to two months before we could get a car that will convey it at a very high price, because we started experiencing high cost of fuel. The very week I finally got some one to help in carrying the blocks. A night before the day that was agreed to carry the blocks, we had a heavy down pour. It rained for hours. Through out the night I could not sleep because I was busy thinking of the blocks that will be shocked with water by morning and it will not be possible to carry it again.

By morning, the blocks were already socked and the driver said he can't go to pack the blocks if not the day we agreed because he has been hired by another person to go and carry other things. This was the beginning of heart problem for me. Because I know that after that week we will continue to have rain until the 10th month of there about. I knew for sure that I am loosing those blocks if it will not be packed that very day and because of the rain the previous night we can't carry the blocks.

Two things were involved at this critical moment.

  1. Get someone to buy those blocks.

  2. Forfeit those blocks because no one will carry them when the blocks are socked with water.

After searching for some weeks without getting anyone willing to buy the blocks because by now half of the blocks were no longer good and no one will want to buy them. I decided to let go. Not because of anything else, but because I was constantly having hard time sleeping every night that it is about to rain.

I learnt some lessons from what happened to me that I will want to share with you- 👇

  1. Count the cost of anything you want to venture into before you begin.

  2. If you don't have enough money, don't think of using mold blocks for building your house because it will be double expensive.

  3. Seek for people's opinion before going into anything that you don't know much about it.

This is in response to the hive learners contest for week 39 edition 1.

Omo... That must have been very disheartening for you. All the money and efforts just turned to water like that.

But you could have bought tarpoline and covered the blocks. Strange them in a heap and cover them. So if they do spoil, it will only be the ones that are on the ground and coming in direct contact with water.

But I guess it's too late now. You did well letting go for your own peace of mind.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thanks for your concern.
Indeed God has made another way for us to start moulding strong and better blocks for the project.

Wow, sorry for the loss. It's quite unfortunate, life situations are a great learning for us to do more better in the future. Thanks for choosing your mental health more than the ugly situation

it's sad you had to let go, next time I think you should also try to not do things all because you fill you should do them.

To build a home of your own is good but at the expense of what?

you can try saving up intentionally for each building process, this will help you go one step at a time.

it's not really easy.
